    Double Bass Stand light

I have battery and AC stand lights. I prefer the Manhasset stand lights as being less likely to blind folks looking in my direction and quite durable. I have both the standard for regular sized charts and the tall for bigger scores - opera and some bway show books. The best solution, though...

Double Bass Any experience with Bam cases? Good cases in Europe?

I haven't seen any of the Bam offerings for stringed instruments, but for WW instruments they are considered a step up from standard good cases.

Fat boys (and girls) playing bass. Interested in weight loss challenge?

Last year I was down to a solid 180 and working out every day, riding an hour after each workout and took up running too. Then I was diagnosed with Graves disease. This was a good thing as the last 20 years of issues all made sense, but then I got on meds that did a number on me. My energy went...

Double Bass Palatino 500 fuzzy buzz

Easiest fix is a big "nerf" ball stuffed under the tailpiece, thus damping any unwanted resonances.

Double Bass Palatino 500 fuzzy buzz

Pictures of your setup might show us something you're missing. The stock tailpiece could vibrate sympathetically, what are you using in its place?

Double Bass Best Small Amp that will work great with BSX Allegro

2 questions. 1: Authentic sound? Upright sound or the BSX sound only louder? 2: Smallest? What is the need for amplification? Bedroom, small club, coffee house, county fair, bar? All these things matter. I have a very small very giggable rig but don't own a BSX, so count me out of the rest...

What’s one thing you’ve done that you’re confident you’re the only person on TB to have done that?

I know many here have played this piece, but I have only played it once - including no rehearsals. 1812 overture with artillery (from the Rock Island Arsenal) in the percussion section. Anyone else only been through it one time + artillery - no rehearsals or read throughs?

Double Bass Cost of reaming endpin hole?

I'll chuck the collet into a lathe and turn it down to match the hole. Much more cost effective than replacing the block for the next end pin that is too small.

FWIW, the pain of yesterday did not re-appear today.

Fat boys (and girls) playing bass. Interested in weight loss challenge?

There's discomfort, and then there's pain. If you do not know the difference be careful as you can get hurt pretty quickly. Not aimed at anyone, just putting it out there. My running and weights have an associated discomfort in general. When I was lifting this morning I felt pain and stopped...

Fat boys (and girls) playing bass. Interested in weight loss challenge?

Yeah, I'm back doing the weights, but my back is bad. So the double whammy of feeling good looking big so you do something your back really shouldn't be doing, plus carrying extra mass up high. My back doesn't stand a chance. I'm trying to limit it to lighter weights, but I've a way to go to...

Fat boys (and girls) playing bass. Interested in weight loss challenge?

A year ago I tried to get back on the weights and injured myself the first week. Ever since then I have been cautious about going back as I can't afford to be injured during a gig. I finally came to a quiet spell and eased back in - I'm still easing in - and so far it has been pretty smooth...
