Double Bass Palatino 500 fuzzy buzz

I bought a Palatino 500 shell. Replaced the bridge and tailpiece , disconnected the remaining jive guts.(installed KK bass master pro dual w/preamp). Replaced nut (Gollihur ebony) and dressed the fingerboard. Adjusted the truss rod and made my own special shoulder rest and peg. (orig missing of course) Strung up some Spiro mittels, then a set of 7710's. The issue: The A string has a bizzare distortion (acoustically and electric) all up and down the neck plus an intermittent metallic rattle buzz. (All metal stuff is screwed down good) Can an experienced Pally individual(s) chime in on anything.? I realize these things were hit or miss cheese boxes and could come out in the wash with a bit of work.

CarlH. , good call. Original tailpiece was replaced by another trapeze, and it is one of those Hofner esque things with the curlycue wire structure structure. Please advise . I have a wood one from an old Tyrolean 3/4 I'm thinking of cutting down. Open to all other suggestions. I want to make this thing work. Taking 3 basses into the smallest of restraunt gigs (pbass, AEB and hopefully the EUB). Sorry about lack of pics.
