    Making videos without weird artifacts

Thanks DirtDog, appreciate the link! After some research I set my gopro to shutter speed of 1/60th, and use 30fps which improved results for me. Your gopro should have the same settings btw - it's not very flexible, but you can choose manual shutter speed at 1/30, 1/60, 1/120, etc. And then the...

    Making videos without weird artifacts

thank you @seamonkey, that makes a lot of sense. Really appreciate the input! I'm using decent (not high end) LED lights that are made for video, started wondering if shutter speed on the camera is interacting with refresh rate of the lights. I saw an article suggesting a multiple of 60 for...

    Making videos without weird artifacts

Hello TB recordists, tried searching - google, blackmagic, and now TB - but could not locate an answer to what might be compression artifacting - not exactly a recording questions, but appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction since many TB members are making awesome looking bass...

Can I use Thomastik extra long jazz strings on a 34” scale bass

I use TI extra long jazz rounds on my jazz bass and several other 34” scale instruments. Much prefer them to the long scale since they are heavier gauge (.101 E string vs super floppy .89 on the long scale). Depending on the bass there is 1/2 to a full wrap of non silk around the E tuning post...

Testing Compressors: Cali, Smoothie, Empress, Diamond, Keeley, FEA, Darkglass, Doc Lloyd, Lusithand & more

I have an API comp that has switchable feed forward and feedback side chain. I prefer the feedback mode, has a more organic feel. A bit like optical, sort of pillowy and smooth. If that makes sense…

In defense of the American Deluxe Precision...

I have one in silver, nicest RW fingerboard I’ve ever seen. Love the light weight, 22 frets, the bridge, the neck… never got on with the electronics though. Ripped out the preamp and put in a geezer p pickup, passive controls, kept the double j pickup. Awesome bass!

    Rickenbacker 4003 string advice

I have 3 Rics, after much experimentation I’ve got TIJF on one, TIJR in .101 gauge on another, and Pyramid gold flats on the third. All of them awesome in their own way! Other contenders included Roto 66, Roto 66 pressure wound, Roto 66 nickel, Roto 77, Optima flats, Pyramid pure nickel, LB...

    35th Anniversary Stingray 5. Wow!

I don’t understand the part about spalted maple top AND a thin maple veneer… why put veneer over a figured top? Maybe I’m misunderstanding what is going on… or the veneer is hippie sandwiched between the body and top? I would definitely rock this bass but prefer the look of the 20th anniversary...

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Twelve

Agreed, can’t understand why Rickenbacker doesn’t do RWRP from the factory. That said, I still shield my single coil basses, including my Jazz bass, cause I love to solo the neck pickup.

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Twelve

For those of y’all that hate single coil hum: I was skeptical but few years ago tried full shielding with copper tape, running ground wires to connect all the shielding. No more hum! Not saying it will work in every location but so far it’s great.

Nice rack! I have the standalone lachapelle pre, really like it both as mic pre and DI. Been very tempted by the retro doublewide as well…

Strings for Cordoba Mini Bass II

Are those the same daddarios that come with Taylor’s short scale bass? I think the E is .090, on that short scale they are super floppy IME. So I’m not sure how they could feel stiff, or if there is anything even lower tension available. You could try a set of uke bass strings (the rubbery...

Stickers / Marker / Tape For Pedal Settings

I use the white scribble tape that is sold for mixing desks, write on it with a sharpie. For those nice looking but annoying silver knobs where I can’t see the arrow, got circular stickers that come on a sheet in various size and color, stick those on top of the unreadable knob and use a sharpie...

Would be great if EL made a 500 series of the Distressor! Nice collection of comps there. Thanks for making the recordings.

Why can't I get a good balance of Jazz Bass pickups?

I’ve only recently started playing a jazz, and prefer 100% neck pickup most of the time. This jazz has a series / parallel switch, love the two pickups in series. Not a fan of both pickups full up / parallel; too thin and scooped for my taste. Vive la difference!
