Who is the best living bassist for you?

Norm Stockton. I like his approach to playing and life...

    Christian bassist's. Need some advice.

I feel your pain. I played with a drummer (he started the band actually) that was really loose. The band talked about getting tighter - he'd play louder. When I would suggest practicing as a rthym section, he would tell me that he actually gets worse if he practices. It was causing a growing...

What do you call your BASS?

Yeah, it started as a band joke between my drummer and me naming our stuff. Now we are in different gigs, but I still have "Angel" and "Shirley", by Lakland girlfriends. Yes, my wife is jealous... :smug:

The Christian Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club Part 7

Yeah, I have heard/played these songs a lot, and it seems that they aren't really all that different in chord structure (lots of DAG out there). Of course each song wants to have it played the way it wants to be played I guess. My ear training really happened from listening to a lot of music -...

How long have you been playing bass?

Ha! I started playing 6 years ago - a mid-life crisis thing. A month later, I was invited into a band, and three weeks later was gigging in front of 250 people! Three months after that was recording a CD. I'm basic, but I can groove. The best thing you can do is play live - and have fun. Life's...

The Christian Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club Part 7

Yeah, I've practiced in that book, I love Ed! Right now, I'm hooked on Jump n' Blues Bass by Keith Rosier. Wow, a fretless, they wouldn't even sell me one of those...

    Tim Foreman

I like Tim's lines, his tone, and his attitude. I would consider him one of my main influences. And, yes, the guitars are following him... :smug:

The Christian Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club Part 7

That's cool. That's a good idea. I have been playing without a music stand for over a year, maybe a year and a half. If I spend some time with the chart and MP3, it falls into place. I'll make a mental note of any things to be especially aware of. In all fairness, I have been off of playing in...

The Christian Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club Part 7

I agree, Norm has been a huge influence on me lately. I don't know about the slow student thing Dan - I think I got a lock on that... :D

Does my guitarist have a problem? *rant/need help*

Gosh... me thinks it is time to move on... I mean, you're a band. There is give and take. What he's doing is just wrong. It's selfish and unthoughtful of you. I would think you could do better...

Thanx! Now I'll get ready for the freezing rain that's predicted... More quality time with a DJ! :smug:

    The Lakland Darryl Jones Club!

Sorry for the crapping pics, but I don't want to take my basses out in the 5 inches of fresh snow. Here they are with the new pickguards from Roger. Can I get a number please? All I own/play are DJ's! :bassist:

How long did you play before you were in a band?

I started playing bass at age 41. I was in a band within 4 weeks, and recording a CD (not too good) within 3 months. Earn as you learn. ;)
