Would you play gigs with a band that doesn't have a great PA?

For small venues-Vocals only PA can work fine, if the band is willing to play to the limits of the PA. Larger venues and even quite a few small ones these days are more likely to have a decent house PA. No need to bring your own. Not a deal breaker at all.

    Randall RB100 compressor

It's related to signal level, not necessarily the setting chosen. If you turn it up to where the light is turning red and then turn down your bass volume enough, it should stay green. Conversely, a hotter bass output (or maybe with a pedal with some gain boost) it should trigger in the red...

My Fender James Jamerson Precision , Intonation issue.

I tried a Nordymute. I had high hopes but I find it unusable - way too much damping. In contrast a half-inch square, 4" long piece of open cell foam that I cut from the factoring packaging of a set of Grado headphones works perfectly for me. I like it so much that I made several. But in...

Albums featuring bass guitar and one other instrument?

Dave Friesen and John Stowell also. I took lessons from Gary. What a wonderful experience! So cool to see two of my teachers on this thread!

Albums featuring bass guitar and one other instrument?

I took some lessons from Dan back in the Day. Great guy and amazing player. I saw their Duet perform a few times. I even think I have some of their charts! I should take a look!

    Double Bass Bass From Craigslist

That's funny. I traded a 5/8 German bass (hybrid, Götz) for a 3/4 Plywood Juzek about 44 years ago!!

Can”t hear any bass at live shows anymore

It's not just the room acoustics though - the 3000 seat theater the OP is referring to can have good sound, just not anymore, which is ridiculous given how far the technology has come.

Can”t hear any bass at live shows anymore

Ok I am from Seattle and I know the theater that @Shirojjro is talking about. I assume by not being able to hear the bass he means it is plenty loud, but pure mush and that there is no definition? It is now the worst venue for a rock(ish) show in town, besides perhaps the old Kingdome, and...

And another quandary….no place to turn on Allen screws for action?

Hard to tell from the angle of the photo (straight-on) but you said earlier that screw was half-way out, and I think I can see that now. That means you are home-free and should have plenty to grip on the outside edge of what is left if that screw. If the pliers weren't grabbing well enough...

And another quandary….no place to turn on Allen screws for action?

I had a fender vintage style bridge with one or two saddle screws that frequently vibrated out of position. I posted a thread here and got some advice for loc-tite, and other things. Ultimately I just ordered a set of 4 saddles and screws for the same bridge. It was cheap ($15?), it solved the...

    Fond gig memories

Not really a gig, but it was on stage at music school. Felt like a performance. Duet with Bobby McFerrin Just one song: A Foggy Day in London Town. Something like 320 BPM. Sight reading the chart on upright bass. Fun. A bit scary, but mostly fun!

Looking For The Right P/J 5....

If you want to keep the price down and otherwise like your jazz basses, you could replace the pickups. Look for split coils to mimic a P sound. It's not quite the same as an actual P or PJ because of the pickup placement but it gets you about halfway there IME.

Hearing my self on stage. Issues with Markbass and Orange set up.

My suggestions 1. Buy an additional identical cabinet for the orange, assuming it stays at a safe impedance for the amp. This gets your speaker higher and the added coupling will make it sound huge 2. Get a DI pedal that you like for FOH send. Your amp will become your monitor and won't affect...

Epic Fail... NBD x2: Redwood Cirrus and Flame Purple StingRay

Love my Ray 34! EB cobalt flats are magic on it if you ever want to try them.

    Delano

I have them in a US Jazz Deluxe, now wired passive. JMVC4 FE/M2 I think is the model. All done by the previous owner. I think they're great. I expected them to be more HiFi or aggressive but they are best described as Fat IMO. Partially due to the humcancelling design perhaps, plenty of top end...
