Concentric Jazz with a Master Volume

I was planning on switching my MIM Jazz to the concentric control configuration of the early models. I like the look. I found a new control plate, and I'm pretty sure it will fit it. But I dunno, I'm cheap. What can I say? I was sitting playing the other day and I thought about old Gretsch...

So, I used a $0.75 film capacitor in my tone control and..

I don't agree, respectfully of course. Everything, as far as pots, capacitors, wiring, is all based on the average human ear. You've heard great bass tones, bad bass tones, flat bass tones, really zingy stuff you play on a Ric. This is all be logical extention, what you ear hears. You may hate...

I have analogy about pizza. Sometimes, when you've found the right place, you don't want to go anywhere else. But then, sometimes, you get a taste for really bad, crummy pizza. Orange drop vs. .75 cents. Sounds lile the same thing to me. Just four strings and no bacon.

    432hz

No... I really donknow what that band was about. Interesting. It was kinda silly/serious hardcore punk/classic rock/grunge/jam band. Shoot me a message and I'll send you a few links.

What do we thing of acoustic basses?

I had an El Capitan back when I was 18. I liked it, but I ended up selling it. I never could figure why ABG are hated so much. People can br do judgemental...

Anyone using extra heavy gauge strings?

I used to use .110 from DR. I don't know if it sounded different. I use 100 on on my hollow body, snd 105 on my Jazz.

My last band we used to play at 420 Hz. I'm not even kidding either.

Why do I kinda like this nugget??

I play one on the regular, and recording. I think its a cool bass. I've played Kala most uke basses. I prefer the Ashbory. The Kala is cool for what it is, though. Definitely would prefer to travel with kt than the Ashory.

Electric bass that sounds like an upright

I use an Ashbory to direct record. Arthritis having sudelunedmy upright. In a mix, if you weren't there when it was recorded, no kne can tell the difference. From what I've read here its a live or hate. Its a treat for me.

    Re: Silk at the bridge...

I haveva nasty habit of buying junky basses abd putting better electronics in them. I'm the dude with a Bronco bass withn the crap tuners/bridge and a Pitbull put in. Used to drive my tech and my wife nuts.

    Re: Silk at the bridge...

I'm using Pure Blues. I used Lo Riders when I first started. I guess my taste in tone changed a bit and I'm nit beating the life out of a Squireanymore either. "The most expensive thing on the basscis the strings..." La Bella's are on the way, and I figured I'd do an ear test, so I got a set of...

is there any joy in being a jobbing bass player?

I've always enjoyed the money out of gigs. Its a split for me though. Has to be, at least in my case, a live for the music. I played in a band tvwt did covers, but jt was Stooges, Johnny Thunders, that kind of thing. Wasn't my music, but it was fun and it payed. I had a band we played constantly...

How many basses do you own? (Currently) Part 2

I have four, currently. A Cassidy, MIM Jazz (gutted the electronics and replaced it all with '62 reissue), one of the screwy Dan Armstrong Alexis from Asia, and an Ashbory. I don't have G.A.S. (or B.A S.?) but I like beung able to tailor the bass to the gig. At one time I had 12... I miss...

    Re: Silk at the bridge...

Thanks. I put some DR rounds on the hollow body. Really opened up the tone. As a rule keep flats on my Jazz bass. Silks there don't matter and they have some class to them. I'm thinking about the LaBellas as I don't change my flats like I do my round wounds. With gigs coming up this summer I...
