Yes, this question is subjective to the individual. So, I'm asking what you personally consider to be "bad tone". I'm not entirely sure myself, other than that it would sound thin or muddy. What is "bad" bass tone to you? In contrast, what is "good" bass tone to you? Post examples if need be!

Apologies, I was referring to an electro-acoustic bass guitar, rather than an upright. I have now changed my post to amend the statement. However, would an upright amp, or preamp system work well for the acoustic bass guitar? I'd be curious to try it out.

I use mine all the time. It improves speed and accuracy. I probably use mine a lot because I have tiny hands though. So, to me, every finger counts.
