I'm surprised to read that many players think playing a five-string is all about playing below low E. For me the great thing about the 5 is that you can reach a wider ranges of notes in any position on the neck. Runs and patterns that have wide intervals are much easier to play on a five.

Loudly starting our set by declaring "Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen!" when we were playing the Missouri State Prison, behind "The Wall" for the life-sentenced.

I don't know if the lighter newer gear is a fad, or just a result of so many of us "baby boomers" hitting an age when dragging around arena-size equipment for a $50 bar gig makes no sense anymore. In my case, at least, it is the musician who has gotten older and heavier! ;)

I have heard that you can contact Mesa and they will work with you to build an amp that meets your requirements.

Has anyone ever heard of or played on Seismic Audio speakers? They seem to be offering some cabs at very reasonable prices. Appear to be made in Memphis? What do you think of them?

In March I bought a GK Backline 600 amp and one BLX 210 cab. I hand't realized at the time that the cab was wired at 8 ohms, max watts 175 and the amp has a 300 w at 4 ohm output (180 at 8 ohms). It worked OK for a little while, but I was disappointed in the volume because I didn't understand...

BTW -- the 210 BLX is 8 ohm -- GK backline 600 is 300 w at 4 ohm, 175 at 8 -- so it wasn't producing the wattage/volume that I was expecting either....

Some of us don't even need to get wasted to drive our drivers into the afterlife.... (((blush)))

Aha! Thanks, Jaco, Skunkll, and Michael. I like the idea of the Avatar 4 ohm 212. It'll get my full 300 w out there. I'll have to sell the BLX 210 -- finances being what they are.... Which Acoustic reissue cabs do you mean, Michael?
