I've had my personal favorite results on my Gamut strung American Standard with a Planet Wing. Visually they seem similar, but I can not comment on the KNA in anyway.

To my understanding, they have the same power and preamps, so outside of the different feature sets you've listed, they will perform identically.

What is commonly called a "hybrid" will have a carved top. The back will always be ply, and the ribs could be either, but most often ply as well. I have not come across a bass that was purposely built with a ply top, but solid wood back.
