I enjoy checking out websites and learned that hybrids come with either a carved front or back. I assumed they were all carved fronts. What are the differences between a hybrid with a carved front vs a hybrid with a carved back? Is one design better for certain tones, resonance, etc? Is one design more popular than another? Thanks!

Double Bass Differences between Hybrid with carved front vs carved back?

What is commonly called a "hybrid" will have a carved top. The back will always be ply, and the ribs could be either, but most often ply as well.
I have not come across a bass that was purposely built with a ply top, but solid wood back.

Somebody (I forget who) is doing "hybrids" with BOTH carved fronts and backs and only laminated sides.
