Old LaBella "Flat Wire Wound Electro Action" envelopes. Nostalgia for those interested

I recently bought a late -'70's/early '80's MIJ short scale P bass and, although it had flatwounds on it, I'm pretty sure they weren't from these packets. Nonetheless, these envelopes were shipped with it. I had never seen these wax paper envelopes before, so I thought I'd share the pics with...

Your Nom de Plume / Handle or Pseudonym used here

I installed window coverings for many many years. I was an independent contractor, so I installed for all the big box stores and many smaller, boutique designers. If a job came up that was far away and it paid well, I'd go. Folks would always ask me, "Do you go to (insert town here)? I'd answer...

"Matte-d" a pickguard. Perfect job for a miserable summer day.

That's one cool combo you don't see much: A 3-ply B-W-B with a matte top. Lends a touch of class to that gloss black body. Nice job.

    A work in progress

HA!! So That's where those pickups ended up!!! Funny thing, though. I try selling my parts to discourage myself from doing any more projects........... then GAS whacks me upside my ADHD head! I better log out....... and quick. But first............ man, that it one sweet bass !

    Fond gig memories

My fond memory of the Chicken Kitchen is this: Someone in that compound was selling a chest of drawers, so they stuck a sign out close to the road, that said "Chester Drewers". That sign was out there a loooong time. My mom and I laughed about that for many years until she passed. I do not...

Unfortunately, the tone pot was removed. whoever had it removed and plugged the original side jack hole and wired the volume pot directly to the output jack, now located where the tone pot used to be. I have no experience with the TBX tone pot. Can you school me on that?

Would this have been the infamous "Chicken Villa" on Stockton Blvd in Sacramento? I grew up in that area. "Shady" would be my description, lol.......

    1986 Jazz Bass Special

That's nice. I'm looking more at these MIJ basses now, since I, too, just bought a Fender PB-551 from GC, but the headstock had been sanded down and a funky decal installed. No one knew what it was, so I bought it for a pretty low price. Anyway, if you're interested, here's my thread...

Church gig - lights died - I've never been so nervous on stage.

Our PC randomly rotates the stage lights. Colors, too. We're used to it. Apparently it's the air temp waaay up high that causes the malfunction. We've had to tell each service that they got a free light show with today's tithe.

Unbelievable! I’d sooner take Bigfoot sightings seriously…

As usual, CNN has it wrong. The singer actually fired the drummer and is chucking his kit. He really means it this time.

Church gig - lights died - I've never been so nervous on stage.

Which reminds me of a story. Many moons ago, there was a little ensemble, singing a rather touching song. When it came for one of the guys to take the lead verses, he held the mic up to his face, had a blank stare for a few seconds and dropped his head. Well, he just plain forgot the words, but...

NBD: I just had a weird hunch......

Thanks. I originally thought it was a Fernandes or other MIJ bass, possibly with a different neck installed. Second time this happened to me. First time was a USA Charvel bass that had been drenched in paint from a can. Always an adventure.

Funny, I was noticing that when you posted. It made me start searching for a PB-551 with a natural neck and black headstock face. I found 2 of them. here's one of them: https://reverb.com/item/646306-fender-pb-551-precision-bass-guitar-made-in-japan-w-tweed-case-red Also, the finish on the back...
