I've started experimenting with slides when playing, but I am just wondering if there are any "rules" to sliding I should be aware of. I mean general guidelines, like when to use them, and how often.
Thanks for the help,
H.S.
I don't have much of a bass face, but if I hit a wrong note I always seem to look at one person in the audience and make a sort of "what was that?" face. They don't normally notice though. I also noticed I've started mouthing some of the notes I play which can lead to unexpected facial...
When I listen to a song, my first instinctive reaction is to find beat/ rhythm, then I focus on the rest of the song. My friends have this in-joke that there's always a part of my keeping the beat. If I'm not tapping it with my feet, I'm tapping the table or nodding my head or I'm clicking my...
My main reason for playing with the band is because I want to be a better musician and I find playing with a band has taught me so much more than any lesson could.
I'm self-taught and I had a bit of trouble with 6/8 when I started playing with a band so I asked my drummer to show me how to play a basic 6/8 on drums. After having about 10 minutes practice I never had any problems with it again, in fact, I think I prefer playing in 6/8 now.
Our band was recently asked to play at a funeral, about 15 minutes before it starts our lead singer says to me and the drummer "If I had of been thinking, I could have used this as an excuse to get off work for the rest of the week". After saying this, she realised her mic hadn't been switched...
This sort of thing never used to annoy me, but I've found recently that in the band I'm playing with (a church band) the guitarist will often play the intro to a song (missing about half the notes) in practice but the choir will start cheering and telling him it sounded great, yet it's like I'm...
I've never really thought about naming my basses until seeing this thread. After reading, I picked up my EB-03 and started playing and "asking" it's name. First thing that came to mind was Lucinda. If you've ever heard the song Lucinda by Tom waits (I'd recommend you do listen to it), i feel it...
Thanks for all the helpful responses, I'm definitely going to try getting some one on one with the drummer. If I can, I'll record the practices or maybe try to get a copy of the services when I'm playing.
Hi guys,
I've been playing bass now for about a year and a half, and I am now playing with a local church band where everyone else in the band is significantly better than I am. I feel like I have gotten to a point where I don't have (many) problems with knowing what to play (looking at the...
