    MusicLily.com??

Responding to an old post, but I have some input that may be useful. I noticed none of the other people responded to the original poster's questions: "Has anyone out there ever bought or used any gear from MusicLily.com? Their prices are really low and I'm wondering if they are any good. If you...

Gig playing bass on guitar synth

I actually play quite a bit of key bass in the cover band I'm in, being a three piece band, we try to make it sound as big as possible and have variations in textures and instruments to cover a wider range of things and keep it interesting. I can play keyboard "bass guitar" sounds with the...

Gig playing bass on guitar synth

I thought about maybe buying the bass version pickup and putting it on one of my basses, but it seems like I've mostly read that the lower strings don't tend to track well. At least on the older models like the GR-33 like I have. I have no experience with the GR-55.

Gig playing bass on guitar synth

Ha... funny thing is with the full band I pretty much split between playing bass guitar and keyboards, and I've gotten relatively decent at left hand key bass. As for the Geddy axe, I've actually been contemplating building a doubleneck bass/guitar synth . I'm my own worst enemy when it comes...

Gig playing bass on guitar synth

This is the first time I used it on a gig, and I thought this small gig would be a good try out. Hardly any of the patches it came preset with were very useful to me, but it's pretty easy to reprogram and move patches around. I've been trying it out with the full band during our...

Gig playing bass on guitar synth

This might be taboo here, but I played bass this weekend without using a bass. ;-) So this weekend one of the other guys in my band and I did a duo gig in a little bar. Usually for our duo gigs I bring a guitar and a bass and trade off depending on the song, but I bought a guitar synth...

Homer Simpson, a bassist ... Oh Yeah !

Generally musical instruments are represented in cartoons not very well, those in this episode of the Simpsons actually look like they were drawn by a musician.

Why so many fat bass players?

I always thought bass players tended to be TALL. It seemed to me over the years that in many bands the bass player was the tallest member. I've always been the tallest in every band I've been in.

Critically acclaimed albums that I just don't get.

Heres why I feel this particular album is a big deal: I love Pet Sounds. Having said that, I didn't get it the first time I listened to it (about three weeks ago) , it sounding like a bunch of orquestrated love songs. But delving deeper into the history of the album, how it was made, Brian...

I feel certain that when I joined TB people actually read other people's replies...

I agree. Once at a picnic I left the potato salad out in the sun for like FIVE HOURS. I ate a pile of that stuff that evening, spent the next two days squirting pure evil out of every orifice. You definitely have to be careful with mayo!

Double Bass What is it with Bluegrass players?

yeah I second this. Whenever I bring my upright bass to do small gigs, so many people come up between sets or after the gig that want to look at it or twng a string. "Wow that's so cool" or "what is that called?", etc. This kind of thing never happens when I bring the bass guitar. Granted...

Calling all multi-instrumentalists! Guitar or Keys

As someone that doesn't read music and didn't study music theory, learning keyboard helped me more than anything to visualize and understand how chords, scales, etc. work. As for guitar, if I was trapped on an island with only one instrument, it would be a guitar- you can pretty much be your own...

    Reverb vs Ebay

I've never heard of "Reverb" till now, I've bought plenty of instruments and other things on Ebay, ,never had a problem.

Did They Ever Make A Shortscale That...

    (6) I am NOT talking about whether or not it's ok to cut longscale strings for use on a short. I still don't get it. A string is a string, you have a center core string, and some number of wrappings. A string with the same size internal core string and amount of winding should be...

    2 man bands....

Funny thing is I used to listen to a lot of two piece bass/drums bands like have been pointed out above. Then I got bored with them because the complexity of the music and range of sounds is just as limited as with a guitar/drums band. I've done duos without bass guitar, and had a full sound-...
