Taking the pickguard off a Squier P Bass

I don't know what you're going to do, but if you're planning on replacing a Squier Affinity P pickguard, be warned that regular Fender pickguards probably won't fit without a lot trimming, persuading, cursing, etc. It's not just going to drop in. Been there, done that.

    P pickup half quiet

Do the magnets on the dead side have as strong a pull as the magnets on the other side? I once accidentally degaussed the E/A side of a new P pickup because I'm an idiot. (Don't even ask me how I did it, just believe me when I say it was stupid.) I regaussed that side with a rare earth magnet...

Maybe found a decent Gibson mudbucker replacement?

I bought one of the Artec pickups from Edenguitarparts for $20 on a whim last year and it was actually assembled correctly, so not all of them have the magnets glued on wrong.

    P Pickup ID

I have a set of P pickups I got from the classifieds here that are supposed to be mid-80s Fender Japan and they look a lot like what's in your photos, but my wires are white and black.

    Military crate bass build

A .50 cal machine gun shell is only slightly larger in diameter than a standard P bass knob. If you can even find one, of course. Also, that's an awesome bass body. I have a mortar shell box that's similar to what you started with, but since my woodworking skills are even worse than my...

    DarkStar Pick Ups

At Curtis Novak's website he has some photos of an original Bi-sonic he repaired and it shows some sign of having two magnets at some point: Invalid Link Removed So maybe some did have two magnets originally.

    Need help recognising this pickup

If anyone happens to have their Squier VM Precision apart.....

According to the Squier Service Diagram, it's a .068mfd with 500k pots. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Are the pickup magnets alnico or ceramic? If they're alnico, I'm interested.

    Rickenbacker relic advice

It's not a Rickenbacker bass, but it's close enough to show how Rics can wear. For a 38 year old guitar it's in pretty good condition and while it has dings, scratches, and buckle rash, it doesn't look "reliced". I've never gigged it, but I have dropped it and banged it against things in the...

    Neusar bridge?

The Neusar in its "fretless" setting reminded me of a sitar. Maybe it works the same way as a sitar by simply having something just in front of the bridge vibrate against the strings.
