That's my plan. Winchester 12 ga shotshells. I figure there's a good chance that Winchester supplied 12 ga shells to the U.S. military at some point in time. So, it would fit the theme.

A .50 cal machine gun shell is only slightly larger in diameter than a standard P bass knob. If you can even find one, of course.

Also, that's an awesome bass body. I have a mortar shell box that's similar to what you started with, but since my woodworking skills are even worse than my appalling bass playing skills, that project will have go unfulfilled.
