How many amps do you guys own?

My old gig-rig now left at the music club for general use: Peavey Max 160 into an Ampeg 115E. Current: 2 x TCE BH250 heads & 2 BF One10s. 1 x TCE BG250 208 combo. Various other amps include: 2 x Yamaha EMX2s & an EMX5 into EVs. 2 x Yamaha 10" active. A Roland Keyboard amp. A Fender...

    TC BAM 200 - reliability?

I've owned 2 TCE BH250 heads for a couple of years alongside a BG250 - 208 combo. All have performed well, no overheating. With Spectracomp loaded, mute switch & an always on tuner they are my lightweight no-faff choice. Power o/p is fine for me but if I needed more then the 550 or 800 are...

What gear to bring to an open mic cafe gig?

When playing a similar venue I take my bass & my small combo a TC BG250-208 which has built in tuner & compression. I really don't like playing through a PA. If the venue has a bass amp then a clip on tuner is in my bag. That's it, a simple & quick setup & pack-up, no faffing about.

    NBD: Hofner Ignition Violin Bass

It's good to hear from Hofner lovers. They are a bit "quirky" but it's the difference that makes them interesting & a pleasure to play. I have 2 violin basses, a Hofner CT & a Tanglewood. Both have flats. It's essential to get a good setup with the correct strings of your choice, makes such a...

Poll for gigging bassists: How many basses do you own…

7 in total, all medium or short scale. I usually take my Squire Mustang or my Tanglewood Violin to the occasional gig. My Tokai SGB used to be my regular gigging bass. Now I like a lighter weight instrument.

Weekend warrior PA set up thread.. what are you using?

I did the PA for some years for my week-end band. I'd say that what ever you decide on, get to know your equipment & how it sounds in a variety of venues. I'd recommend something that's an easy quick set-up. Folk tend to recommend the kit they have and know & in the same way my experience using...

What actually happens when strings age?

A wipe after playing does no harm. As a flat-wound player I don't change my strings, they just get better as they age. My Tokai SGB strings are maybe 20 years old.

    Official Barefaced Bass Cab Club

Going lightweight a couple of years ago I bought a TCE BH250 & a BF One10. I liked the sound so much I bought another One10 to get more of it. No more GAS!

What electric bass setup are YOU using for your straight ahead jazz gig?

With my Jazz quartet - Tanglewood or Hofner HCT Violin bass. Always Labella flats. Amplification - TC BH250 into 1 or 2 BF One10s, (BH250 = 4lbs & a BF One10 = 16lbs). At my music club - usually my Squire Mustang again with flats into the an old Peavey head & an Ampeg 115.

    Official Barefaced Bass Cab Club

My dotage led me to seek a light-weight rig and I eventually ended up with a TC BH250 into a BF One10. 16 + 4 lbs = 20 lbs that I can carry in 1 cajon bag. And of course when a good offer of a 2nd One10 came along I couldn't resist. With just a touch of Spectracomp and the mids dipped a bit I...

    Loudness vs. Power

Decibels are a ratio of one power level to another, they are not a quantity. A +3dB increase is a doubling of power be it from 10W to 20W or 100W to 200W. Decibels are often misused & misquoted even in textbooks & definitely by some manufacturers. Our experience of loudness is related to the...

Why Jimi Hendrix is so Important

I listened to both Cream & Hendix in the 60's, 70's & both were great, so much pleasure from both.

Anone actually satisfied with their rig?

Had the same gig-rig for about 10 years, (60's/70's cover band). Tokai EB3, (flats) Peavey Max160 head Ampeg B115E cab To my ears I get a full, warm tone that sits well in the mix. It is simple, relatively lightweight & has been 100% reliable. It was all second-hand at a total cost of...
