    Buying from overseas vs locally

I think I am a member of Ozbassforum, I just haven't been there in years, same as here :D I haven't been on the net much in the past few years. Basses I'm looking at buying is a relatively high-quality fretted and fretless four string. Would love a white and rosewood Deluxe Jazz, though it's...

    On that Damn fence again

I'm thinking of buying that exact bass, but have no way of actually playing one (way too pricey for the little local shops to stock), and I don't feel like paying $500+ extra just because I live in Australia. Always wanted a white bass. Always loved the 70s block inlays. That's got em both!

Who owns what? Fretted or fretless question - please let's have YOUR vote!

I just enjoy the tone and the techniques he's using. Looks like a lot of fun! And you can't really do that stuff on a fretted.

    Buying from overseas vs locally

Thanks Dubista, that's pretty much the info I was looking for. Though not as positive as I would have liked :( I'm guessing the branding restriction thing is because there is Fender USA and Fender Australia or whatever, and they don't want to step on each others' markets or something. But it...

    Buying from overseas vs locally

I don't really know anyone there, beyond old acquaintances from forums and stuff. What's the deal with customs fees? I can order books and whatnot from Amazon, and there's no fees there, I'm pretty sure... Hm, thanks for that. There's a specific 'ships to Australia' list, and it only has used...

Who owns what? Fretted or fretless question - please let's have YOUR vote!

I'd never really heard of the guy before, apart from noticing his signature model amongst the list of all the others. I really want to get a hold of some of his stuff now.

I'd say this is a pretty good point for owning a fretless: Makes me really want to buy one of those...

    Buying from overseas vs locally

Well Musiciansfriend says it will ship one to my postal code for like $150. It's not like I can just do it for a test though, kinda of a lot of money just to try it out. Buying sight unseen is something I'll probably be doing regardless, because the two local shops I have near me are useless...

    Buying from overseas vs locally

I've been making a fair bit of money lately, working a lot of hours, and I'm in the position where I can finally buy a nice bass or two. However, being in Australia, everything is way overpriced. Doesn't seem to be as bad as it used to be, ie, double or triple US pricing, but it's still...

Who owns what? Fretted or fretless question - please let's have YOUR vote!

I own a second hand Samick P-bass ripoff I bought specifically to pull the frets out of. I played it with gaps in the fingerboard for ages, before I got around to pulling it to bits to finish the neck. But it's sat in pieces on my bedroom floor for a year or so now, so it'll probably never happen :D

    Lace Helix Bass.......Once Again

Hey guys, I was just in a music shop, and saw some of these basses. I'd seen pics of them in magazines a couple of years back, didn't really like the look, but thought they'd feel good to play as I usually dislike the large bodies of Fenders and stuff. I was in this music shop, which generally...

    2009 rockbasses?

You do realise you're talknig a single millimetre, right? You're completely crossing a line of basses of your potentials list, because the strings are a single millimetre too close? That's crazy man :P And I love that Fortress fretless. I've been wanting a fretless Warwick ever since I picked...

Cant play 12+ frets while standing, help!

It's because your hand is able to curl around the neck easier when the bass is higher up. When it's down at your hip, your wrist is kinda hooked under, making it more difficult to reach the lower (higher up) strings.

    Potrait of tracy harmonic chords

Yeah, I found it really difficult to fret those chords, with the harmonics and the fretted root note. You're trying to tell your left hand to do two or three different things, and it doesn't like it :P
