Hey guys,
Just need some advice. Even though I'm a grown up (wife, kids, doggies etc) I'm still a kid on the inside. So when it come to letting go of things, it gets a little difficult. A bit of my backround. I'm am a bass hobbist and I love the sound that t he bass produces. Like some of you guys out there G.A.S has taken a mighty hold of me. Personally, I don't feel the need to have eight basses. Yet here I am seeking for some words of wisdom.

Basically, I want to list in order of most prefered. It may look weird, but I'm going on best feel and sound in my opinion:

1. Fender 60's Classic Jazz
2. 08 American Standar Jazz bass (red w/maple neck)
3. Geddy Lee (black)
4. Jazz bass 24
5. 08 American Standard P
6. 08 American Standard Jazz (burst w/rosewood)
7. 75 American Jazz Vintage Reissue (rosewood)
8. Roadworn P bass, burst

Here is the issue. They all sound great and different. I play them through 3 different amps (Ampeg B100r, Ampeg 610hlf w/Ampeg SVPCL and Crest power amp, Fender Bassman 250/210) and enjoy all of them. None have a "suck" factor in my opinion. I did manage to let go of my 07 american deluxe p which although was great, It never gave me the sound the others do. After two years it went. I have had no regrets. With the eight listed above, I fear that remorse may set in. What to do, what to do? Keep or let go?

I had 2 Jazz basses at one time and felt it was redundant
I also had 2 P basses and I felt the same
You can look at what has more in value in resale or more in value for sentimental reasons

I would keep:

the 08 Am std P Bass

the 08 AM std Jazz (I would keep the maple fingerboard one just to keep things different PLUS maple boards seem easier to sell as well in the classifieds)

MAYBE keep 1 or 2 as backups:
like the Geddy AND the Jazz 24(esp since the 24 is not issued anymore and is the one lone active bass you own)

You can sell the rest and move up the Fender food chain if you want and get the newer
American Deluxe model Jazz with the active /passive circuit and blocked neck

Are you gigging at all?
I had a 1200 watt Crest Audio rig that I promptly sold after I stopped gigging regularly
it was taking up space and overkill for a townhouse. I play though the mixing board at church with in ear monitors so I just bought a cheap Orange combo for playing at home.
If you arent playing out I would consider thinning your amp herd too

This is my 2 cents
nothing wrong with having multiple basses of the same type
I personally value variety and right now I feel kind of squeamish having 4 basses
4 basses is the max for me and even now I feel like "thinning and upgrading"

I feel the same way (redundant). The maple Jazz sounds better than the rosewood. We do have an 06 American Deluxe Jazz at my shop. The JB24 does hold it's own though. I would keep the Geddy over the 75 only because of my GL fanboyism. Also, it plays and sounds great.

No, not gigging, just a home hobbist.

I agree about thinning the amps out. I love my Rocket and Bassman. Two totally different amps and quite loud for the basment lol. The 610 is a guilty pleasure. I would keep the Korg tuner though and just sell off the SVPCL/Crest w/ Alessi power conditioner.

You have 6-Jazz basses, and 2-P-Basses.
Do you need 6-Jazz Basses?
Keep the two P-Basses.
Pick three Jazz Basses you like best.
And sell the other basses.
Then you have money if a Gas Attack ever come up.

I have no advice for you. I like basses, I don't really gig (I don't count my church playing as a gig... and I don't ask for or get paid for it) and I like diversity. Some of my guitar playing friends (I'm a guitarist who plays bass) think I have a problem, and maybe I do, but well, having different configs is a cool thing, and I am still learning about those differences:

Those are not all of mine, and no, the others aren't blue (only 2 more) and most of mine I have modded, and I don't buy name brand, but I only get rid of guitars/basses once my desire to play it leaves. Whatever you decide, it will have to be your decision... unless you are married and the CFO says you are limited to a certain number or $$ amount. Do what feels right for you.

I'm in a similar boat...

Unless you NEED to sell some - don't

There's no justification for my owning of 30 basses, but...
My wife supports my hobby, I have (almost) enough space to house them & I'm hoping that one day my kids will enjoy them.

A few are on my "gotta go" list. I'll likely try to trade for other gear.
