    How about an "Acoustasonic" bass?

I think a 18th century German flat back and a 1940’s Kay C would be a couple great upright samples. Also a Hofner and a Kingman for the acoustic bass guitar samples would be great too!

    Pbass sound

I’ve been using GK amps for almost 10 years. Contrary to popular belief you can get those amps to sound very thumpy. Roll the treble off a little bit, leave the mids at noon and set the bass at 2 o’clock. Also I’ve been using a Nordymute for a couple of years. And I love it! It doesn’t mess with...

Is an Acoustic bass worth it

I’ve been playing bass in a bluegrass band for over 40 years and I haven’t had an upright bass in over 30 years. A couple of months ago a gentleman stepped up to me after our show and wanted me to explain how I was getting “that acoustic sound” out of a Fender Precision. I said simple, flat...

THIS is what the live music biz is REALLY like today.

I started playing bass in 1979. In two years time I was playing bass in one of the house bands at Silver Dollar City (Dollywood now). I worked there from 1981 to 1984. The last year I worked there I was making around $130 a day. Keep in mind, this was 1984. I bought a G&L L-2000 in 1981 for $873...

    PJ Basses

I’ve been really impressed with both the American Performer and the Duff McKagan basses. I don’t personally own either one of these basses, but the ones I’ve played have been really great!

My Ash P Bass sounds too bright

A bright sounding bass isn’t always a bad thing. Many stages and rooms I’ve played in can be very boomy and the bass just sounds like one huge roar. I’ve found in my 40 years plus of playing a bright, almost harsh sounding P-bass sounds amazing in the house. Try flats and maybe a piece of foam...

What’s the downside of Class D amps?

I’ve been using Gallien-Krueger amps for almost nine years now and I love them! I’m amazed at how many compliments I get on just how great my amps sound. The new Legacy heads sound awesome! I’ve been eyeing that Legacy 210 combo. 800 watts in a combo that weighs a little over 30 lbs. pretty...

The Inevitable Question: Why The Bass?

I started out on drums, but just didn’t have the coordination ( in other words I played the drums like a windup monkey). I was once told I had no sense of rhythm. My brother was already playing guitar and I didn’t want to play the same instrument he was. A friend of my mom’s was a professional...

What year did you start playing bass?

1978. I started on upright. A friend of my mom’s played bass with Jimmy Martin. She let me barrow her 1936 Kay C-1. She was going to let me barrow her 72’ P-Bass. But, she was going on tour in Japan and she needed her Fender. So, she showed me a couple of songs on the upright. We stuffed that...

Should I send it back? Opinions, please!

My Player Series P-bass has a slight blemish on the neck. I kept it. That bass has some serious MoJo, I’m so glad I kept it. As long as I play bass, that is going to be the one I play. Don’t let a slight blemish be the deal breaker, if you like the way it sounds.

Why is bass often so low in the mix?

I’ve been listening to a lot of U2 lately from the Unforgettable Fire to their latest releases. I think their mix is as about as good as it gets. It’s very balanced. Sometimes the Adam’s bass is almost in your face and other times it’s very low key, but always present.

Your Guitarists' opinion of your P Bass?

I use GK amps as well. I think the combination of a P-bass and GK amps are the bomb! I never have issues with my bass sounding muddy or boomy, it just works!

Your Guitarists' opinion of your P Bass?

The correct quote is “set in the mix, not cut through the mix”. That’s why all the old guitar players love P’s. They don’t like it when the bass starts creeping into their sonic space.

Official Nordstrand Acinonyx Cat bass club

I love my NordyMute! Best thing I’ve bought for my bass since buying an amp! Seriously!
