This is clearly a no-brainer from a musical perspective. Half the posts on TB are about how to get a good acoustic tone on electric. The business problem is that Fender doesn't think it can sell enough at $2k a pop to bassist for it to be worth their time developing the instrument.
Fender DOES, however have an Acoustisonic model and several Acoustic Sims on their Studio/Stage amps, and those are fabulous. They could take a thinline acoustic/hollowbody bass, and equip it with a preamp with those amp models, and it would be great, but you can do that yourself with one of their amps and your own bass right now.
Also, if Fender made one of these, I would want it medium-scale fretless with an ebony board, and I don't think Fender is going to oblige me.
