Introducing #577, which arrived last week. While I was recovering from a disk rupture in my back last winter I was looking at all my heavy basses and realizing I need to lighten things up a bit. Tom made me a bass (#215) in 2010, and I saw a picture of a recent headless he made in the 6 Lb range and here we are a few months later.
Tom was great to work with. I also told him I need it to be comfortable to play sitting and I still have some nerve pain in my right leg. So he didn't round out the bottom bout as much as he usually does so the weight is more distributed. That was an awesome touch!
It is a 32" Lise, and came out just under 6.5 lb. I even played it standing for a few songs at our last practice. It is so well balanced and light weight. I don't have much experience on shorter scale basses, but it feels fast and very comfortable and has Tom's great neck playability.
And as a result I have to sell #215. PM me if you have any interest. I love that bass too but it just won't get enough playing time.
