There is a "sort for lightweight" option that I chose for a recent swamp ash P bass build. The bass weighs about 8.5lbs. There is no 22 fret standard option - but you can often order off the menu if you get your dealer to ask. Whether that bumps you up into the master built strata, I don't...

    I know... I just don't get it.

200 years ago people still liked old things.

Weight? - The ultimate tire kicker question.

I just bought a bass. First thing I did was ask the seller how much it weighed. His response was 9lbs. I bought it. had it weighed much over 9lbs I would not have bought it. Weight is important.

Yes. In fact, technically, the sunburst finish is a faux aged look to simulate the wear that violin varnish would take on after being handled for years. So you could argue that the very first Strats had a relic'd finish.

The stack knob volume and tone controls were only made in the first couple years of production, so this wouldn't be a 64.

    Fender pre-CBS Club: pics mandatory!

I went with the Ernie B's because I read that they were among the brightest sounding flats. I do a lot of fret board tapping and wanted something that would be good for that. I normally put Rotosound 66s on my basses because they are bright and good for tapping.

Nice. I recently put a set of Ernie Ball Slinky Colbat flats (40-95) on my 61 P bass. It's really my first time stringing up a bass with flats. I'm enjoying it.

I think I mentioned this already but I ordered a FCS bass last November 2020 though Sweetwater and there was no deposit. I took delivery of the bass last month and I paid the full price the day it shipped.

Nice. I have my first fretless P arriving next week, hopefully.

If you lost all your basses and started from scratch, what features would your preferred bass have?

I'd start hunting for another good vintage P bass at a reasonable price.

    Active or passive basses?

I only own one active bass - a Stingray that I bought in 1998. It's a great bass but over time I've come to realize that I prefer passive in just about every instance and mostly hold onto the Stingray for sentimental reasons. I love the organic richness that a P bass provides. Active...

    Anyone use lighter strings?

40-100 (rotosound 66) are what I mostly use. Great for tapping. I might actually try 40-95 next time I re-string. I have been putting 40-95 Ernie Ball Chromes on my flatwound set up bass.

Where Is The Fender Precision Bass Club?

Alder bodies with maple necks and rosewood boards. Blonde finished bodies were made of ash but those are uncommon special orders.

Nice! Did you install the Gotoh? Is it possible to order a CS bass from Fender with Gotoh or Hipshot tuners pre-installed on it? Or will they only put Fender-brand tuners on it (Assuming it's a team built instrument)?
