what happpened to Dean Markley bass strings. Blue Steel?

played on blue steels for 30 years. I cant find em anywhere reasonable, HiBeams are closest to tone wise, but they only last a couple practices and just become a giant midfest with none of the good brightness. bummin.

    Heartfield/Fender Bass Club

I didnt notice any sound difference, tone was the same, and it was clean tight sound recording wise. through a mackie 32-8 into pro tools and cubase. The low-z is fairly quiet, but steady enough that you can go direct in. I rarely use it because of the bi amp set up I use, both of my amps direct...

Whats the best pickups for carrots replacement?

In all seriousness. I have two basses that I love but hate the pickups. Both have mudbuckers. and I am looking to find the simplest change on both basses. One is a Dean. I love the neck, the action. I have considered shooting the bass though. Nothing but low end. Im looking for a really...

To connect bass head to interface... "Line out" or "Direct out"?

The line out will give you all of the pre amp and op amps features provided you use a TRS and your interface has a TRS. Your direct out will give you the preamp, eq and tone shaping features. I record a ton, almost exclusively using amp direct outs, balanced when possible. As was said, your tone...

Bassist standing on the left side of stage

Always stage right. The drummers kick drum is of utmost importance to me. Also, I havent found a drummer yet that prefers me on his hi hat side, although if the drummer felt more comfortable Id do it. Seemed to work for a bunch of bands like Zeppelin, The Who and Tool sometimes, although...

    I need some serious help

I taught skiing for many years. Anytime we saw a couple on the hill with the husband trying to teach his wife, we had a very special word for it......we called it a divorce. Learning any new endeavor, especial a physical one is a process and takes time. The reason you need lessons is that you...

What Level Bass Player Are You?

What's more important, the beat or the groove?

pretty sure, I said if the drummer cant play the beats accurately that is a problem that needs to be addressed. A couple of times.

What's more important, the beat or the groove?

Im amazed at how we can make this really complicated when it doesnt need to be. Go ask a damn drummer of any genre to play you a couple different beats that he uses.....They will play you what we call a riff, or in its technically correct term...a phrase. Its a pattern that repeats from 1...

    NBD. 88 DR Heartfield DR4

Indeed. I love the tone of it, really simple to dial in exactly what I want. Love the action too. Hard to put it back on the stand once i pick it up.

What's more important, the beat or the groove?

If your drummer isnt playing the types of beats with the rests, accents and time signatures correct, that can be a problem, but probably sounds like a minor communication issue. Has nothing to do with beat or groove or feel. Your drummer is trying to tell you where to go, it just isnt coming out...

    Heartfield/Fender Bass Club

Got the bass, had to replace one screw in the bridge. New strings, new battery. Love it. Sounds like a wal, plays so smoothly. great access to upper frets. Really easy to dial in sound. Can nail Justin Chancelors tone exactly. The XLR out works nicely, I ran it direct to the board for a clean in...

    NBD. 88 DR Heartfield DR4

Cool bass, Has an XLR out as well as a 1/4" filter based preamp with sweepable mids. Sound astoundingly like a Wal or a ric. Both the XLR and standard jack work at the same time, for a fraction of the price. paid 4 bills. :).

    Heartfield/Fender Bass Club

Im just fixing to buy a 1988 or 89 Dr4. Quick question, can you use the XLR out and the 1/4" at the same time. Wondering if i could send the XLR to the console and the 1/4 to my amps?
