That's the set up I'm going back to as well. Not great acoustically but very good amplified. I've been using Innovation Rockabilly Black's E and A with Supernil's D and G. They sound great acoustically but very uneven amplified. Must be the difference in the tension.

What are you using for E?

He was playing with Kim Lenz again last I heard. I know for sure he played on her latest album Slowly Speeding. Jake and Whit are some of the coolest people to talk to. I got to see them (HCCT) in Albuquerque a handful of years ago.

I use mine to enhance the slap in loud situations. I run a Fender Rumble 1x15 cab with a B&C speaker and the stock tweeter is still serving me well.

I've done it. They're meant to be tuned A,D,G,C So you're going to have to tune them way down to E,A,D,G (like a bump set). $20 from Mariachi Loco on Ebay.. They may be too floppy like that for your taste. I ended up just using the A,D & G and bought a tape wound Innovation "Rockabilly" E...

I posted about the Innovation "Rockabilly" black tape wound strings last week or so. They do everything (pizz and slap) for me extremely well. They won't bow though if that's a necessity for you. Very loud on my plywood bass too. Hope this helps.

Blast Cult "Low Life" strings are all steel flatwound and very flexible as they are made to be slapped. Very affordable too.

It was more a band than any particular song. 1997 Milwaukee jump blues combo the Swingin' Kools with Matt "The Ratt" Davis slapping his 1942 American Standard. We've been best friends ever since and he still has that bass!

Or you could just buy another bass down there for very cheap and keep your good one stored with family in Oregon for when you come back? Those little tololoches are fun! Safe travels!

If you have an adjustable bridge then this should be pretty easy. Forget about all the measurements being thrown out here and just keep going up (or down) until it feels good. That's it! All about feel. Just high enough to get your fingers under. The sweet spot will be obvious when you hit it.

Sounds like you're in a rock'n'roll band. Most of my rockabilly combos were drumerless ie; early Elvis, High Noon, Two Timmin' Three etc. I slapped 99% of the time. I really prefer the stripped down sound.

I use a Rumble with a B&C speaker and it's definitely the business. I'll include the specs on the speaker. Tons of low end and with the tweeter handling the hi frequency I don't need anything else with it.
