I think these were a Japan only non export model from the early 1990s. Looks like some modifications have been made, a black pick guard replacing what should have been a tortoiseshell guard, and like someone else mentioned the concentric pots look to have been replaced. Killer bass, nice find.

No, there is absolutely nothing laughable about playing a squier, the classic vibe lineup is great bang for your buck for $480. I have paid a 1000$ for my vintera 50s Precision and I feel that is great value. Gear does not matter in reality, tone is in your hands and in your preparation.

I would think it is similar with the Tim Armstrong signature in that it is considered to be a classic vibe. They are both based off of 70s Precisions and the the quality is the same as the 50s and 60s CVs.
