Does anyone know the stock strings gauges Gibson used for EB 4 basses? I have an EB 2018 and the nut is cut too little - yet evenly. The 45-105s that I use, don't seat very well there. However, my guess is that they just did a sloppy job there rather than shipping them with superlights.

Yes, I have one on a bass. I am thinking about what to put on a guitar. Probably something a little less bright, like a Ziricote or a Macassar Ebony(?). We shall see. I generally like rosewood but I am fed up with it. Never touched a maple and I won't since it can get nasty in the long run...

Since you used the car analogy: It depends on the manufacturer. Some take it to the extreme, like AUDI, for example. This is why I will not buy one. What I am trying to do from the answers here is to calibrate my judgement a little, in order to be able to better take this decision.

Yes.. but thing is that these upcharges are also for no endangered woods like bird's eye maple and ziricote for example. Now, I know these are generally more expensive woods but if the cost for an end user can be $20-$40 when bought directly, I would think that the cost would be much less for...

Example: Is a $250 upcharge for an ebony fretboard justified by the cost of the wood and perhaps the increased difficulty to fret it (is it actually more difficult than maple for ex), or it is just an easy way to charge more?
