    Markbass Hiss

WWBW/GC/MF did refund, and replace with brand spanking new... for $40 more. (I had bought an "open box return" for 20% off) The replacement came in two days, and had a markedly lower volume hiss, so I DID use it for two gigs with the "Old School" knob dialed up just a hair. I didn't notice any...

    Markbass Hiss

I just got my 210-500 shipped in from WWBW/Musician's Friend, hooked it up, and there's an instant white noise hiss... The only way to kill it, is to dial the "Old School" knob to full. Reading this thread, I'm guessing "Old School" means no tweeter... and that knob is a filter that...

Responding to "the bass is a lesser instrument" comments

It may be only 4/5/6 strings, played one at a time, but think of it as a background lead instrument. Bassists invent their own line to fit what the rest of the band is doing. Bass, drums, rhythm, and keyboard, working hard to make the frontline look good.

The "Yes, That's My Dinky Amp Onstage And Proud Of It" Club--Nothing bigger than 100w and 115 or 210

Sorry, I don't have an onstage picture, but an earlier version of this Acoustic Image Contra amp has been everywhere with me. I got it for acoustic bass, but we've used it with electric bass plenty of times. In a band in a box Cumbia band, Salsa, Community band, 40s Big Band, Bluegrass. It's...

Well, you could get a Uke Bass...

CRAZY perspective I got from a long-time DJ last night

Sometimes the internal dynamics of a group, the amenities that go with the job, or the time between gigs, will allow for a smaller reimbursement for services rendered. But, if the group isn't on the same page, the band can crater even when there are jobs to fill. This just happened to me in a...

    Worst Neckdive You've Experienced

I'm not an electric bass player... upright's my game. But, there's always somebody at Bluegrass gatherings, who has the tuning head to tailstock type shoulder strap. I don't know if that puts you too far out on the neck.
