Are Thomastik strings easier on the hands

TI jazz flats are known for their longevity. Last a long time, ok their low tension get s some to get used to but its worth it. Like, would i buy a Camry or a Chrysler Pacifica? Reliability is the key word here..

Flatwounds on a J Bass - overall thoughts and experiences?

Youre just overthinking this. I bought TI Jazz flats for my jazz bass and never looked back. Think they are from 2016. Still sound amazing and i haven´t purchased any strings for my JB since then.

Looking for easy songs to learn sight reading

https://www.amazon.com/Standing-Shadows-Motown-Legendary-Jamerson/dp/0881888826 Great book, helped me in practising sight reading. Difficulty level ranges from easy to advanced, I presume you want to progress and play also more busy bass lines.

    Flatwound differences

I actually forgot 2 more flats that i have tried, standard LaBella flats and Cobalt flats. LaBella sound like Motown straight out of the package and not much break in period. The cobalts were totally different , sounded almost like roundwounds for a fortnight and then sounded more thuddier than...

    Flatwound differences

It can be expensive to try flatwounds from different companies, my experience is with TI and Fender flats. Maybe im just deaf but i couldnt hear a lot of difference sound wise between those flats. In my view, it depends on the texture and the tension under the fingertips to pick your preferred...

TI Jazz Flats - A string overly bright?

I dont know which string gauges you used before but the A string on TIJF is unusually small in diameter compared to other traditional string sets. A full bass setup is needed if you plan to keep them for some time.

Mineral Oil really does clean strings!

Unless you have fretless bass with round wounds ( which Jaco had?). The frets bend and misshape the strings. Its just waste of money to clean or boil strings. I tried it and the strings were prone to break . Metal doesnt like to stretch back and forth. Just basic metallurgy.

Singing the praise of flats on a Jazz Bass

Have had Fender flats and also the Fender tapewounds on the Jazz bass. The tapewounds surprised me , thick tone and nice feel to them. For the past 7 years have had Ti flats. Sounds the same as from day one. My only gripe with them is the light A string; could be few mm more in diameter. For...

    How thick is your pick?

Im amazed by the precise measurements of plectrums, two decimals of millimeter..! Who would notice if .87 or 88 thickness of a plectrum? The string gauges are at least not that precise; and i hope one day those are measured in metric unit..

    Question for Enfeld Superalloy users

They´re good strings , fairly smooth being a round wound string and the tension is medium to low. Hold their sound for a good amount of time. Not much talk of this set in Talkbass but thats how it is. Since youre in the States it´s not relevant but Thomann sells them for decent price. The silk...

What bass-related Christmas present would you get yourself?

Try Thomastik Infeld strings if you haven´t done so. There are no other strings that compare to them. Expensive they are but worth it. Like comparing MG Rover and a Bentley.

    New House or New Bass

In my view the OP is just mocking us or trolling. Who else spends 12K on a bass when money is tight? The internet has it´s pros but there are also cons.

    Nylon Tape Wound Ranking/Rating

Fender 9120 tapewounds. The best of flats and rounds. Smooth and roundwoundtone. It´s perplexing to me that they are not more mentioned on this forum.

Bands with more than one bass player

There was this UK group called "Freebass". There were 3 bassists in the band and it somehow worked; not much wankery ala Billy Sheehan. And it also was a "real" band, releasing EP´s, singles and one LP.

I Don't Know What To Practice!

Learn the piano. Why limit yourself to one clef. I can´t remember a pianist who only played in bass clef. Sacrilegious to say here but bass guitar is a limited instrument. Jaco, Geddy Lee, McCartney, JPJ were/are competent on piano. It only helps, not detrimental. Raises your awareness of whats...
