If you really cannot find anything, might I suggest you try a fleabass? I think they are great. They have a really lively tone, which you can improve further by replacing the pickups. Give them a try, they have worked for many people I know that could not decide what to buy and tried a fleabass...

I bought my fender standard jazz bass about 4 years ago and I love it. Maybe the quality of fender's products is decreasing...?
