Yes, great job on the bridge, and taking the shine off the body too- excellent! Thanks for the tips, I may follow suit soon.

I'm thinking the same, although I do like the bridge it's not very 60's! But I'm worried (and I suspect) the screw holes won't line up. Has anyone done this already?

Hi Dave, TBH I'd say the easiest thing is to do it all at once... if you're gonna do the pup I'd do the pots at the same time, save yourself the hassle of taking it apart twice. Once you see the tiny Squier pots you'll wish you had some CTS there to replace them with ;-)

Here's an improvised jam I recorded just to demo the sound of this CV bass (with upgraded electronics) - I'm particularly happy with the rolled off sound. http://soundcloud.com/martin_rawlins/squier-cv-with-fender-pickup Bear in mind this is all DI with no other EQ. I understand the orange...

Hi, yes I did, this was the kit: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380259121967&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT I think the rolled off tone with this kit is pretty cool, but I didn't really compare the stock rolled off tone I'm afraid. "What if" is indeed the question but for $15 all...

Haha, thanks! To be quite honest - not much difference at all. Maybe in the "quality" of the tone rolloff. I mean they're not identically the same but they're both nice pickups. A new set of strings would (and did) make a far bigger difference than changing the pickup. But I wanted to treat my...

Sure, here you go - a funk jam I knocked up just for you. I played a lot with the tone control turned down as I've just discovered the cool sound it makes ;-) http://soundcloud.com/martin_rawlins/squier-cv-with-fender-pickup

Good call, and thanks. Yes I got some really nice aged reverse tuners here http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190413347047&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT but I haven't put them on yet as the existing bushings are somewhat laquered on. When I tried to get them out it started to crack...

Hi guys Here's my Squier CV which I've attempted to pimp as near as possible to a non-distressed "Pino". Scratchplate: Fender 62RI (which fits perfectly!!) with full shield Pickup - Fender 62RI CTS audio taper pots, switchcraft jack 62RI knobs (before and after pictures):

    Passive vs Active for Recording

No, you can tweak them, active EQ will have bass/treble boost (the active part) as well as cut. You might have a center position on the knob which is often the flat setting with no boost or cut, although the volume tends to get boosted overall with an active pre as well. Many active basses allow...
