I play both French and German and agree with what has been said so far. An important concept in German bow is that the thumb is the anchor of whcih the weight of the arm is transferred into the bow. The thumb is the most important thing in both French and German bow technique.

ok so I ran into this luthier who has carved elephants into the tailpiece, scroll, and back of a contrabass. he has agreed to let me play there but I also want to play the elephant on this bass because I think it would be super cool. Is there a certain transcription that yall would recommend?

I am playing "Failing" but I know of Tom Johnson's transcriptions of pieces in different languages. Hope to talk with you more in the future.

I do prefer the style of the simandl book but it is important that this book is partnered with the simandl 30 etudes book.

I really like experimental contemporary music and free improvisation. I also enjoy theatre pieces.

Has anyone here played "Failing"? If so did you like it? What are your thoughts? I have played it before and was going to wipe the dust off again for a concert in January.

I recommend taking some time to look at 1/2 size basses.
