Double Bass 3/4 bass for 5th grade orchestra?

Somehow I missed the fact that your son is 5' 6" - the bass in the picture looks like a fine size, and he might even want to pull the peg out a bit. I've had one student who went to a 3/4 size bass in 6th grade because she was adult sized already.

I think he's grown a couple of inches since school started too. He's an exceptionally big kid. (Also a great student) He was sitting for a posed picture here. When he plays, he extends the end pin about 4 or 5 inches. It's a Kay bass and the third notch from the bottom of the pin seems to be about right.

The biggest problem seems to be getting the instrument in and out of the bass bag. He can get it done but it's a lot to handle.
