Double Bass Trying to gain some speed for the fun of it, song recommendations?

There is a cool version Billy Lee Rileys - She's my baby which is pretty fast. I'm ready by the cochran brothers, is fast too. Maybe these songs are not super fast, but I love these songs because the bass has such a cool drive.

Tommy McClure bass info needed !!

Wow! Do think you think that's it's possible to collect some questions that Tommy answers? There is really less info about him, although he played so many great sessions. Maybe Tommy can share some anecdotes and memories with us.

Jamerson “Can’t Hurry Love” technique question

...I had the same problem, especially when using fat flats. I lay softly the index close to the nut or on the nut and play the notes with the middle finger (yes, two fingers in one fret). The index will mute the strings. Barre the nut is a Double bass technique to control/mute open strings.

    Double Bass Why not?

traditional rock n roll and rockabilly is dance music and the job of the bass player is to make the feet steppin' amd serve the lead instruments and singers. I guess that's very common with some traditional jazz and swing. The laid back feeling + the resulting sound by the choice of strings may...

A question for the LaBella experts

Cool, thanks for the replies. ;-) yes, I tried each set of the Deep Talkin (and many more) and found my peace with the '49 on a P. No need to change that.

A question for the LaBella experts

Hi, does anyone have an idea how old this set of strings could be? I guess they were made in the 70's but I have absolutely no clou. They have silk on both ends which the newer LaBella Flats don't have. I found them a couple of years ago on the flea market, put them in my string box ...and...

    TI Flats - test question

I prefer them on the P. Pino Palladino with the John Mayer Trio is the best example for the possible sound. Don't worry about the price. I have my TI 8years on the bass and they are still working fine.

    Double Bass slap overdubbed

Thanks for the reply. I came "close" to the recording by muting the tones with the left hand and playing the shuffle constantly. That works pretty good for me because the volume of the slap remains constant.

    Double Bass slap overdubbed

Hi, I read recently an interview of Bob Moore where he said that Joe Zinkan overdubbed the slap on Johnny Cashs "Boom Chicka Boom" album. I've never thought of that before... What do think of Farons song? Have they already overdubbed the slap in 50's? I'm just wondering because on some...

Tommy McClure bass info needed !!

Hi, I'm new to the forum - just signed in to get to this topic ;-) With this track, Tommy is a new name on the bass hero list. Really love his playing - he plays the whole memphis soul bass recipe. This guy is absolute underrated. Did somebody of you found out more about Tommy? Infos are...
