Not sure if I've mentioned this before, but I don't reside in the US, so buying used is not an option. So I'm forced to buy new. The Ray35 and the Trib L2500 are looking the best now, just need a little help choosing.

I need a new fiver fast, and it's down to the G&L L2500 and the Ray35. What would you guys recommend?

Well Ed Friedland just took the Ray34 & the SB14 for a test drive (and he already owns a Tribute L-2000). And apparently he likes the SB14 best among the three. He's going to keep it. Here's a pic from the EBMM forums:

Well, I'll look into used. That said, I think I'd still feel comfortable buying new. Plus, international shipping fees would run high, right? I just found this bass on musiciansfriend: http://tr.im/hZqa It's the Fender Jazz Bass 24 V 5-String Bass Guitar. For the price, I'm guessing it's MIM...

Do you guys think buying used is safe? I'm avoiding that option because of that very reason. I'd rather buy new. Also, I've decided to wait until the Sterling by [...] comes out and then decide amongst these three…other than this gig, I guess waiting won't hurt. Thanks guys!

I've been playing the bass for around 8 months now, but don't own a bass yet. I play moderately well. I have a rather big (for me) gig coming up, and I'd like to buy a bass for it (I currently play a crappy J-bass copy). My top 3 choices currently are the G&L Tribute L-2500, Lakland Skyline...

Yeah, I'm beginning to feel the same way. Wish they had a pic up of the Honeyburst Ray35 though.

Damn. :( I really don't like the way that pickguard looks…wondering if that warrants getting a Ray34.

Afaik, Musician's Friend lets you Preorder the Ray35 in either of the three finishes.

All fiver 'Rays have that kind of pickguard?
