    OFFICIAL ASHDOWN CLUB

Just thought I'd mention that Ashdown gets some advertising value for their sponsorship of Brian Ray. Here's Paul McCartney at the Whitehouse. During the first ten seconds, the amp and cab in the foreground are... Granted only a bassist would notice, but only a bassist buys bass amps.

    Yamaha

Yamaha is the largest musical instrument company in the world. It's fair to say they make a lot of beginner instruments, but also a fair number of high end instruments that might not appear in most music stores. Have you played a Yamaha SA2200? It's not exactly budget or low-end. (Warning...

What bass made you go passive (or mostly passive) after years of using active eq?

I'm happy to be corrected on this, but I'm pretty sure if your passive bass plugs into any pedal with an opamp circuit, then the total circuit is an active bass. Whether the pre-amp is inside the bass or inside a pedal that chains before your amp doesn't alter the existence of active circuitry.

If your favorite band called you to fill in, would you be capable?

Being asked to join The Beatles? Sure, what could possibly go wrong?

    Why no love for Ashdown?

Here's a video of someone using an ABM EVO II.

They're letting the guitar player go after the next gig

The guitarist will soon be looking for a new band. So, I suspect, will you. Would the drummer like to go with you? There's your new band.

    What bass?

I'd also get the Ibanez. If the VAT advantage will let you stretch that far, the SR500. Or if that's a euro too far, and you like trans blue, this 370?

It Hurts Me To Look At This Bass...

This is what happens when people drink on the job.

Tips for achieving a good electric organ/piano tone on bass

The Organizer from Earthquaker Devices. I have one. It's a very specific sound. If you're planning to play Bach's Toccata and Fugue then this is the pedal for you.

    Finding a Band...

First of all @Kombo your attitude is excellent. People who stick to their principles do fine. Some of those people into blues might also like to play jazz blues. Then suddenly you're playing interesting bass lines. Which isn't rock, but is terrific practice. Then there are the people at...

Is no one buying ANYTHING anymore on that well-known auction site?

I wouldn't buy any used instrument that I hadn't first checked out with my own hands. Same for amps. Pedals and small bits of hardware are a different story.

Who Here Does Not Own A P-Bass And Never Will?...

My own choice is the M-2000. But when I said interesting I'm referring to features common across lots of models: the G&L pickups, the onboard preamps which seem to do a great job, the extremely useful EQ systems. Not to mention the build quality. The M- and MJ- models would seem to be the pick...

Who Here Does Not Own A P-Bass And Never Will?...

I'll confidently say never. I'm an amateur, so I'm not forced to have a P. In the same price range G&L does a more interesting instrument that frankly sounds far better to me, Ibanez is more comfortable in my hands, and Höfner does a better vintage sound (and has enormous cool factor). At a...

Which Rock Star Will Historians Remember?

So you're not a fan of classical music, I guess. There are at least 300 composers active in the 1700s for whom there is known work. If you think Mozart and Haydn are the only two whose work survives then that precisely proves my point!

Which Rock Star Will Historians Remember?

Name three great musicians from the 1700s. Most people struggle to get past Mozart and Handel, assuming they even know those. In the 2300s the only musicians known from our time will be the one or two (max) who wrote the most popular, most loved, most accessible songs. Which means...
