I'm not so sure about the "pretty strong".. Own one myself, amongst a lot of other, and just like the OP, it has to be crancked up quite a lot before it starts to do what I want...

I don't like it either. On the other hand: I don't like any of the Fender amps. Oh how happy I was with my Trace Elliot stack, and even more happier when I sold that one and bought an Ashdown ABM combo.

I have no experience with the combo, but did own a TE amp with 4x10, 1x15 cabs. It was LOUD, and it was HEAVY, but somehow I couldn't get the sound I wanted, although I played it for years. Sold it, and bought an Ashdown ABM EVO II C575 combo, with an C115 extra cab. Loud a.f., even louder than...

Been in the same situation also (who doesn't...). We had a rather solid band, with the occasional gigs and a happy audience all the time. We played songs we really liked ourselves, mainly Muse, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Royal Blood, Rage against the machine, stuff like that. Anyway...

Checked mine on a pic I found. Not really a good pic, but you see that the Spector in the back has it slightly, but both Fenders (1977 USA P-bass, JB, unknown) don't have it.

Absolutely. BUT. With only 12 notes in an octave we would even run sooner out of new grooves... wouldn't we..??

So common sense is adding the same sort of speakers? Weird. I own an Ashdown C210-575 combo, (at 8ohm) and added an 8ohm 15inch speakercabinet and it gives me a LOT more power and "booom".... If I understand it right, it would be even better if I added a 2x10" cabinet..???

I voted for the "backup" option, but in fact do several options. I got a PB in normal tuning. I also have a second 4-string, detuned to DADG. Besides that, I have a 5-string, which I (for one song) tune to CEADG. After the song I tune it back to BEADG. Don't have trouble with whatever option...

I recently bought a pedalboard, so I could arrange the "loose stuff" next to my GT-6B. On the board is a Boss OC-2 octave, a Darkglass B3K, a Woolly Mammoth (clone) and a EHX Big muff Pi. The darkglass gives the least real fuzz but I still like it. Don't know what to buy next, love to have a...
