IIRC, they were also playing some songs at the time that used 1/2 or whole step UP tuning, which could contribute to a bit of the sound considering the increased tension.

The way I look at it, people were building instruments long before Stew-Mac was around, and there's no reason under the sun that someone should have to pay the god-awful price of $15 for a block of wood cut at a specific radius or $30 for damn pair of pliers that are flush-faced to snip frets...

CnC would allow them to crank out basses a bit faster. Also, we've seen a lot of companies increase in quality by adopting CnC machines (Squier, anyone?). They already use a shaper to sculpt the necks, which is about as close to CnC as you can get for a neck. It seems like a no-brainer to me.

I always thought the non-reverse t-bird body was so different, but now that you've shown them side-by-side, I realize it's more of an optical illusion.
