Double Bass Posting for a friend

Rent! It's a cheaper alternative to trying to find a cheap double bass used, only to find you have to sink tons of money in to make in playable. Some places have great deals, mine rental includes free strings and set-ups, which can also cost a lot. I always recommend rentals to folks just...

Ever been truly blown away by a piece of music?

Drugs to Dear Youth by Tera Melos blew me away and made me feels things I've never felt before. I've been chasing a follow up to that album for a looooong time.

Double Bass Getting ready to come over to the Double bass side. Good deal or not?

Hey! I'm in East MA and finally rented a DB this summer after wanting to play for a long time. I would totally recommend going the renting route. I went to Johnson Strings Instruments in Newton and they're helpful. DBs can be a lot of work and money, and renting + insurance can cover many...

Pick ups of Bryan Kienlen (Bouncing Souls)

I love the Bouncing Souls. Try reaching out to Bryan. I messaged him when the Souls came to Boston in December. I was already a few drinks in, and their show corresponded with my birthday, and he responded to me and was really nice!

    Who's your effects hero?

Timmy C from RATM inspired me to play with pedals. Justin Pearson's stuff in the locust made me want to horde pedals. Brian Gibson of Lightning Bolt made me want to become a noise wizard. The stuff he does with effects and pedals is amazing.

    Flats on a Jazz.

Got my jazz bass setup the other day and put some Ernie Ball flats on. I love the tone and how smooth they play. They keep sounding better the more I play, too. I'll keep some flats around from now on. I'd recommend them.

Replacing / Upgrading parts one at a time

Thanks for the responses everyone! I prefer a thicker P bass neck, and have always thought about putting that on my J Bass, which kicked off my whole thinking of updating everything. I'm not too concerned about resale value, but perhaps I should be thinking about the long term impacts I could...

Replacing / Upgrading parts one at a time

Hello people of talkbass, First time poster here, and I'm hyped to join the group. Sorry if this question has been asked before, I couldn't find anything in the forums. I have a MIM Fender Jazz Bass I have had for 14 years and love. I have been contemplating upgrading this bass piece by piece...
