PhatRon I have been listening to " Still " all day and your playing is outstanding , so creative and your interpetation of what is needed in each song is so good. Very good band with very good players are you guys touring ? Did you use drop D on the entire album? The flats do set so well in the mix. I use Cobalt rounds on my Bongo and Sterling but will put the flats on my 72 Jazz and give it a try.

Thanks so much for the compliments. I only used drop D on that track. There was one passage in one of the tunes where we used an octave plug in. Sad to say the band is no longer. Our leader and my best friend for many many years was battling brain cancer/ treatments during the recording. He passed away just before mastering was completed, summer of 2016. I've since retired from bands/gigging also.
Obviously, everyone has their own taste but I think you will like these strings on your jazz. When I switched to these I noticed I was hearing myself better on stage, which allowed me to turn down a bit which helped the overall sound.

TI Jazz Flats on my Reissue Jazz, same set in fact since 2010. Before that it was Roto RS77 Flats, those I had to change every couple of months.

Rotto Tru Bass 88's. Love them! Looks great on a maple fretboard as well. Used to use D'Addario Chrome's, and I like them as well, but I found they were a step on my journey to the 88's.
GHS Pressure Wounds on my Jazz Bass. Kind of between rounds & flats. Singer says just enough Thump. Perfect for the Classic Country Music Band I'm playing in.

I just put Ken Smith compressors on mine, they are just like the GHS pressurewounds (they should, since GHS makes Ken's strings!) I love them so far.
After a short stint (as in 3 weeks) with the GHS Brite Flats (Alloy 52 half-rounds), I've come to a realization nothing sounds better on my Jazz than the GHS Pressurewounds.
Just took a set of SIT power flats 45-105 off of my Geddy Jazz . Traded them for a set of GHS Balanced Nickels 44-106. Flats just didn't work out with me.I couldn't get the mud out of my mix. The GHS BN seem ( to me ) to be the right spot in between round plated steel and flats. ( on my Bass ).
Got my jazz bass setup the other day and put some Ernie Ball flats on. I love the tone and how smooth they play. They keep sounding better the more I play, too. I'll keep some flats around from now on. I'd recommend them.
Fender 9050L and EMG J-pickups. Have also done it on a J with stock pickups. Both sounded amazing, as in "I'm leaving them like this" amazing, no neck issues. I don't know why more people don't do this.
If I had two J basses, one would wear the 9050s for sure.
I've got two J basses, and surely enough one wears 9050s. Hadn't touched the other one for two months after putting them on.

I’m interested in the chromes and 9050’s. I played with precision flats on my jazz for a long time and love their feel. Rounds just sounded much fuller and deeper with the band I’m in now. Really wish flats would work though. Tried the Steve Harris signature set and took them off after one gig. I may do tape wounds instead. I got a set of tru bass for a fretless. Same strings on a fretted would be good to balance the sound nicely. Not sure about other tapes though. I may be missing out.
