4003 Rick Bass LIVE - How to dial in the best tone

This. And if you do engage the vintage cap, reverse the scenario and turn the neck pup all the way up and the bridge pup at 95%.

Ric 4003 - Optimal Pickup Height Unlocked

So I raised the pole pieces on the bridge pup one full turn, and holy crap did it make a difference! Clarity and punch, with an appropriate amount of neck pup "wool" that I think is the essence of the 4003 sound. Kept the poles all the way down on the neck pup. Both bobbins still set low. I...

Cool, I might give that a try as well. How high do you raise the poles?

Ric 4003 - Optimal Pickup Height Unlocked

Howdy, Been a while since I have posted... Picked up a 2024 Ric 4003 in December and have been endlessly tweaking it to discover the "perfect" pickup height to obtain its "perfect" sound. I have read many posts on the topic, and of course everyone wants a different sound so I understand that...

    NBD: 1975 Fender Precision

Yes, I believe the strings are EB SS Group Flats (not sure of the gauge), which is a string I knew nothing about until researching them after buying this bass. Normally I play TI Jazz Flats on P basses, but the EBs sound so good I will probably stick with them for a while. I am curious to hear...

I assumed the volume/tone knobs weren't original, but maybe they are? I do have a set of "flat top" knobs I might swap out, we'll see.

Yep - awesome band. Driftwood fiddler Claire Byrne occasionally sits in with a local Grateful Dead band that I also occasionally play with, but I have not had the honor of playing with her.

    NBD: 1975 Fender Precision

Yep, I did the same years ago. I believe that one was a late 70's Precision, and it was beyond abused, but it sounded and played great. Its condition was such that it was relatively inexpensive too, but I let it go. This one looks and sounds better than that one did though, so I wasn't going to...

    NBD: 1975 Fender Precision

I don't. The bass is still in transit from Omaha, I hope to have it early next week.

Yep, the pickguard is a replacement. Fortunately for me the assorted aftermarket parts and "player's grade" condition dropped the price to the point where I could afford it.

    NBD: 1975 Fender Precision

That is random, isn't it? It isn't in my way so I will probably just leave it, but I won't use it. Another curiosity not shown in the pics is a small section near the heel on the back of the neck where someone carved out "II20." This one definitely isn't a collector's piece...

Thanks - I have a set of GZRs in an Allparts P Bass I put together recently, love those pickups.

Question for owners of the Fender USA Geddy Jazz

Both are sharp. I have an earlier version with the cream binding, but you cannot go wrong either way.

    NBD: 1975 Fender Precision

Howdy, I was in Omaha NE to visit my daughter last week, and stopped by "Ground Floor Guitars" down the street from her apartment to kill time (killer guitar shop, btw). I had zero intention of buying anything. After playing a few things they said "hey, you might be interested in this one we...
