    Double Bass Superflexible Solo-Thanks!

After digging around here for a while, I decided to pull the trigger on the Thomastik Superflexible Solo 4/4 43 set of strings and tune them to orchestra pitch. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that recommended and posted about them. I'm surprised that they don't get more love. They...

    Double Bass 1970's Juzek bass

Ok, thanks for the help everyone. Looks like the search continues. Maybe I can save a bit more and contact Upton about a Standard. They look really nice and I could take a road trip to pick one up. It would still cost less than the shop wants for this VB80. Although the wait might just kill me.

    Double Bass 1970's Juzek bass

I'm renting from this shop: Vermont Violins & The Burlington Violin Shop They have a shop in Montpelier and Burlington. I believe there is also another location in West Lebanon NH at the Power House Mall that may be closer if you are in the White River Junction area. I haven't looked in to...

    Double Bass 1970's Juzek bass

I'm currently renting a Eastman VB80. It's come to the point where financially it makes more sense for me to buy my own. The shop I rent from wants $2800 for the bass, Glasser french bow, and bag. I'd get a few hundred off the price due to their rent to own credit program, but my general feeling...

    Am I Being Played?

Best bet is to find a used cab that you don't care about to leave there. Then I would ask for a small discount on your share for the rent each month. If you take your head and bass home and leave your nice 4x10 there you never know what mismatched head will end up plugged in to it. I've had...

Double Bass Terrified beginner needs to learn bare basics

I just started playing Double bass and have found a lot of great free online instruction if you search for it. Check out "http://www.discoverdoublebass.com" It's a site made by one of the forum members here. There's some great instruction on basic technique.

    One too many 8x10s??

Huh, I guess I'm the only one who digs the distorted camera mic over the actual recording. Check out Electric Wizard:

Not happy at all with this "new" forum layout !!!!!!!!!

This feels like trying out a Fender at Guitar Center. You know it's supposed to be good, but the feel is all off. Please take the forums to a good tech for a setup.........

So my bass player needs opinions on a rig

I'm guessing by your user name and your band's lineup you guys play some form of Hardcore or aggressive music? Usually, that means playing crappy D.I.Y. venues that have PA support for the vocals only and the backline needs to carry the room most of the time. What tuning do you play in? I...

Beginner practice amp is it worth it?

+1 to spending the money on a good starter bass instead of trying to get both right now. I bought a used Gorilla 8 inch combo amp to practice with at first, total waste of money. You will more than likely end up playing with other people, and a small combo amp won't cut it anyway. Try to find...

Any Tips for playing in drop C?

I've got a 4 string Peavey Foundation tuned to C standard. I've had good luck with a set of heavy gauge GHS Boomers. They have a 115 E String. I don't think passive or active really matters at all. The Foundation is passive and it sounds HUGE.

    "Mojo" vs "Scratched up-abused"

I am not a fan of intentional relicing of a bass at all. There is no mojo in that. Mojo to me is more of how the bass inspires you and how you as a musician make it speak. I find my playing style changes a little depending on which bass I play. Also mojo has a lot to do with the memories...

How many basses do you own? (Currently) Part 2

Up to 6, and I'd like a few more including an upright. Most of them need work: Peavey Foundation - CFA#D# - Broken tuner screw, mismatched knob. First bass and absolutely thunders! Sekova Beatle Bass - EADG - Short Scale Fixer upper - Needs a LOT of work, new neck plate, stripped screws, setup...
