Just two these days, my modded detuned Conklin gt7 and a eventually to be slightly modded mim fretless jazz. Wouldn't mind getting another 7 but i can't imagine having more than 3 basses again. I like new strings. I'd rather have fewer basses with fresh strings than a ton with old dead strings. It took me about a month to get used to playing 7 string but kept at it and i was able to sell three 5 strings that used for f#bead, beadg, and eadgc because the 7 covers all 3 tunings.

Five is my count. My Carvin 6 string is my main ax. I bought a Brice 6 string as a backup. My first bass, a '76 Precision witha Jazz pickup in the bridge position; my fretless Precision, also with a Jazz pickup.

Regretfully, I sold my custom made 5 string when times were tough in 2008.

Latest acquisition is a Stagg EDB that I cannot play yet. All the aforementioned instruments are left handed. Plans for the Stagg are to convert it to a left handed 5 string.

I own four:

Fender MiM P-Bass (1998)
GTX 300 (no idea on who makes it, where it comes from, or what year it is)
Rogue LX205B Series II 5-String (2003)
Totally unknown manufacture fretless headstockless bass shaped like a tryriche.

The P-Bass is my first instrument, I've owned it nearly 14 years, I love it to death. It's been to many, MANY gigs with me, played virtually every style of music there is, and has even been overseas with me.

I'd not trade it for the world.

I play em all, no trailer queens on my squad, but it's become more of a collection than a quiver. I really only gig with 2 or 3 of these; the rest rarely leave my practice room. Though the Steiny has become my favourite travel bass, when heading to the cottage or whatever since it's so small and dependable. I've sold off a few and am really trying to only buy those specimens that are interesting, rare and will hold their value. I'm addicted.... And poor. ����

Up to 6, and I'd like a few more including an upright. Most of them need work:

Peavey Foundation - CFA#D# - Broken tuner screw, mismatched knob. First bass and absolutely thunders!
Sekova Beatle Bass - EADG - Short Scale Fixer upper - Needs a LOT of work, new neck plate, stripped screws, setup, bridge work, rod cover, might just be a wall decoration.
Ibanez Soundgear 800 - EADG w/rounds - The pots are stripped, loose. My main player, very comfortable, light, reliable, easy to play. Sounds pretty good, stays in tune for weeks.
Electra Westone X640N - EADG with flats - Crackly jack. Love this thing with flats, it is set up perfectly, plays really well. Keeps the noise down for late night noodling.
Squier Bass VI - EADGBE - Short Scale Rounds - Nut work, bridge replacement, strings. I had high hopes for this, and someday it might be great, but I'm unmotivated.
SBMM Sub Ray 5 - BEADG - Rounds - Pretty good, maybe tweak the setup, which was pretty good right out of the box. Most comfortable 5 I've ever tried.

Not done yet, every bassist needs a Fender P and J......or I could, you know, fix some of these instead....
