    Gibson RD Bass Owners Club

I have a strange relationship to my 1978 RD Artist. I always wanted one since 1988. Got one in 2009. Sounds fantastic, looks fantastic, but I have basses with better playability, it is also quite a heavyweight. It spent most of the time in it's case when I had it. I wanted to give it another...

    NBD Gibson Victory Standard

I have a Q-80 too. I like the playability. I also have an RD Artist, which I like the sound of, it is a heavyweight too. I guess, the Victory Artist is a cross of both. I always wanted a Victory Artist, and Victory MVX guitar too, since 1982. I guess, now it is too late to find ones in nice...

Official Fender Bassman Club Pt II

Well, I have the amp on "3". It is not full power to blow the speaker. I am planing to get either a neo Bassman 1x15 or a 4x10. Yes, it moves because the head is too light. I started playing guitar in 1983. Got my first bass in 1988, but didn't start playing seriously until 2000. Used a Trace...

Official Fender Bassman Club Pt II

I got me a Fender Bassman 800 now. Am happy with it, using an early 80's Bassman 1x15" with EVM15 speaker. So far so good. The problem is that the amp is moving on the cab. Am I driving the amp too extreme? Did anybody experience this too? What did you do about it?

If you only owned 2 basses...

If one is a P, then that P should be a 2002 Fender American Deluxe P (the one with the additional bridge humbucker) in cherry sunburst with rosewood board. The other is the J from that same series. That said, I have that mentioned J, but not the P. I have four other basses, and while I...

Trogly Spills the Beans (Gibson Bass Content)

I'd love a Victory reissue. It can be updated in that they use a regular nut instead of the brass nut, graphite instead of steel rods for neck stabilisation, slightly smaller headstock with Schaller M4 or Hipshot ultralites. I wouldn't really need the 24 frets either, it could be 22 frets, like...

    What's your bass-owning philosophy?

I am a guitarplayer since 1983. I started playing bass around 1988, but did that on jam sessions and homerecording only. In 2000 I was asked if I could imagine being the bassist in a cover band. I said yes, but I would need a bass I could enjoy. I had an Ibanez SR800 that I didn't really enjoy...

I like discontinued basses. Am I alone?

I love Hamer USA basses. My favorite Fender basses are the old Am Deluxe P-Bass with the humbucker, the Am Deluxe Zone bass and the Am Std Jaguar Bass. I like the Gibson Victory, RD Artist and the Guild B-302a. Musicman's Big Al SSS too

    NAD, heavy old MESA content.

well, I thought the Prodigy weighs just a fraction of what other tube heads weigh.

What are you currently GASing for?

Hey, it's a new year now. So, what do I want? I want a new amp. I play in a loud blues band. At rehearsal we are incredibly loud. I use my Ampeg V4BH and a Mesa Diesel 2x15" cab. I don't gig with it. Gigs are mostly small venues, so I use a TC 250W head and a 2x10" TC cab. But that is not my amp...

    Mesa WD800 vs Ampeg SVT

I use an Ampeg V-4BH, but I want the WD-800. The YT clips Mesa had Bobby Vega play on sound great to me. I really love 60's and 70's music, but with gear I like it compact, as I mostly play small glub gigs anyway. There was a YT clip of a guy using the Mesa Subway preamp and a Mesa Flux Five for...

Gibson, at least they're trying…Les Paul Junior Tribute Bass

That's true. I once played a 1976 P-Bass that weighed just as much. The Gibson Q-80 doesn't weigh that much, but it has light body and a heavy neck. It has a huge headstock and ist quite neck heavy. I like it's looks and, apart from being neck heavy, it plays nice. But the pickups don't sound...

My RD Artist weighs 11.7 lbs.

Gibson, at least they're trying…Les Paul Junior Tribute Bass

Well, I like the looks of several Gibson basses. Those I played never seemed that practicable to me. I love both Thunderbird designs. I love the RD and Victory designs too. But the basses need to be that heavy? I have a 1978 RD Artist and a 1986 Q-80 Bass. Take the Victory shape, use alder or...

    Hamer

The regular ones had Dimarzio pickups. Custom versions had OBL (passive) and later EMG (active) pickups.
