    Cocky Bass players

As both a bassist and a guitarist, I think you could safely say he'd have no change at guitar playing with only two fingers on his left hand unless he's the next Django. Tell him to learn to use index, pinkie and everything between, then maybe consider playing in a band. As for your situation...

    I couldn't feel worse

It's crap, man. And it happens every day. Trust me, we've all been through it, and those of us who haven't will be if we continue on in music. It's like motorcyclists and laying the bike down. It either has happened or will happen. You will inevitably work with d-bags. You're lucky, you got it...

    Loaning a Bass

What if the guy's bass got damaged in transit? Rare, but it happens. I'd say it's definitely a personal decision to make, after meeting the guy or at least speaking with him on the phone so you can get a read on him of some kind.

    Loaning a Bass

Eh, if it was me and I was playing on the same bill with them, I would. When I was playing guitar I loaned my 5150 to a member of the band playing after us whose amp fried in the rain before the show. He messed with my settings, but it's hardly a big deal, and we're actually pretty close now...

Post some pics from your Halloween gig - 2008

We played two Halloween shows, or at least were going to, but the 31st got shut down, so our costumes were wasted. The night after we just went and played without, but those are the two best pictures of me from it.

The saga continues: the legendary 'Farting During a Show' Fart II Thread

Woww... That's pretty awful dude. My drummer has a technique we affectionately call the trumpet. We all fart, a lot, but this guy has [i]mastered[/] his anus, in ways indescribable with words. The trumpet, is when he lets a decent fart, usually Taco Bell related, build up, then gets a hand...

That's a thought. Would you have an example?

Teach me to play metal bass...

Thanks to all of you, plenty of gold in this thread, just gotta dig through it and see what's what.. I didn't even think about Death or The Red Chord, love both of 'em, and I definitely need to take a closer look. As for the rig, trust me, I know. I'm rocking a real nice bass (nicer than I...

Teach me to play metal bass...

Haha, thank you Vorago. No offense to you other guys, I'm a huge Chancellor and Burton fan, but neither of them quite capture what I'm working at here (apart from the fact that we do have quite a bit of off-time stuff, but it's not nearly Tool or Meshuggah level). These guys are pretty close...

Teach me to play metal bass...

Alright, so normally I tend to lurk and post random unnoticed replies longer before starting a thread, but here goes. I'm a recent convert to full-time bass, not because I "couldn't hack it" on guitar, or anything of the sort, but my band needed a bassist and I was feeling froggy, so I jumped...

Surprise! Guitar center employees are idiots.

Got lucky that the Sam Ash near Chicago has the bassist of one of the bands we play with regularly working in their bass/guitar department, so he and I tend to get on just fine, and he keeps me informed of any new sales coming up that may help.

    Pre Gig Band rituals

We all have some drinks, but the guitarist whose side of the stage I stand on, we tend to get blindingly drunk. It helps us cope, or something, but we usually do pretty well, and it makes the stage show a lot more fun to watch. We get to start our own mosh pit if nobody else is moving. We're...

Coolest random thing from one of your gigs?

Played a show the other day at Lake Station Eagles Club, in Indiana for Halloween. It's a little crappy venue in the basement of a bar, no stage or anything. I'm a relatively new bassist, a guitarist that switched over and I'm loving every minute of it. Anyway, this was a 2 night Halloween...
