Why do famous bands replace their bassists so often?

I think it's hard for a lot of us to imagine why someone would walk away from a successful (and amazing) band, but maybe you don't want to tour, you aren't feeling the music, or you hate your bandmates (Eric Avery isn't a big fan of Perry Farrell from what I've read). I've heard Maynard...

    Slappin' de bass

I don't know how a Peavey Grind feels, but there are some basses that are more uncomfortable to slap than others IMO. Thunderbird and Violin style basses are pretty awkward for slapping. I love my MM Stingray. Probably one of the best slapping basses I've ever played was a Tobias Classic.

Just because you are talented it doesn't mean you have a brain

A guy asked me for lessons after a show when I was 18 too. I went through with it and gave a guy a couple lessons, but it was really frustrating trying to teach someone who's only concerned about how fast they can slap. I'd taken lessons myself for years and asked my teacher if he felt I was...

    World's most valuable basses?

So assuming you're a cool billionaire a la Paul Allen, and you buy McCartney's Hofner, do you play it?

    Mesa Boogie 400+ with 2x15s

I have a 400+ and 2x15 Mesa Diesel rig. It's unspeakably sweet. Absolutely no complaints with it but I will say the Mesa 15s are the brightest and punchiest 15s I've ever heard. The 400+ is also a very punchy head, not as warm as an SVT or Bassman 300. It does kick out plenty of excellent tube...

Would you quit a band if everyone but you smoked?

I'm also the only non-smoker in a band of smokers. We take fairly productive breaks. I kind of enjoy the smell of cigs but I've never bought a pack myself. That said, I'm a Community Health Science major and having taken Drug Ed. 101 last quarter I can tell you that second hand smoke can take...

    Band Image

uh Rage Against the Machine and Faith No More are not and never were grunge. Excellent bands, no question, but even though they connected with the same kids, they were rap-metal-whatever you want to call it. I'm 21 and as a 90s kid, I adore that era and sound too. The thing is, fashion in both...

Being in a band with your girlfriend's best friend...

It can work. Like people have already said: the White Stripes X (John & Exene) the Smashing Pumpkins (James & D'Arcy) but I think probably the biggest testament to the fact that it can work is the song Don't Speak by No Doubt. It's a breakup ballad about Gwen and her bass player Tony. They...

Is anyone image conscious about their rig?

I care. I play tube heads for the same reasons people wear suits to the office. They project professionalism and style. I guess really I just love the aesthetics of classic rock more than I love convenience.

Does your band not fit in with "theme" of the gig?

Yeah totally know how you feel. my band is too metal for most punk or pop shows and too eclectic for most metal shows. half our songs have acoustic + screaming lol: Link Removed It's cool trying to win over an audience, but it's definitely awkward when you get asked to play a coffee shop and...

    Does This Rig Make Sense?

Cool, thanks. Yeah I've heard great things about radial, I'll definitely check that out.

    Does This Rig Make Sense?

I'm trying to run a Mesa 400+ & 2x15 with an A/B splitter and a yet-to-be-determined tube head & 2x10 for a massive rig in stereo. The clean signal would go from bass, to Tech 21, to A/B switch, from there to the 400+ running 2 Mesa Diesel 15s. The other channel of the A/B switch would be...
