Sometimes I wish my rig looked bigger or more powerful, etc...I downsized from an SVT4+810 to a LMIII+GS410. But when it comes down to it: less schlep, fits in my coupe, sound fantastic, versatile...yadda yadda.

When I have money for a big stage rig again, I really want to give the Markbass Classic 300 all-tube amp and their CL810 cab a whirl ;)

well I guess I am image conscious, but let me explain........
I like a nice, neat looking rig....not that it really matters to get the job done, but its just what I like in terms of being image conscious

I like a rig that works, taking quality over quantity and popularity.............I like more than I need to get the job done...but within reason........
gear has come a ways, and we have lots of nice choices......

I like a name that means quality, but because I want quality, not "image"....I think most of you should follow what I am saying.......what's popular, isn't always the best......
who don't like a wall of death-by-bass....crushing everything within miles......but realism goes a long ways.......this is where image conscious stops........

its cool when you have some small bass head and cab that will hang right with some "fridge" stack for its given requirement.....not saying that all the light weight stuff replaces the big tube + fridge stacks.........but its still cool when someone sees and hears a smaller stack and says holy crap!!!.........that rigs is doing that!!!
that's a cool image.....
lots of great choices out there, and sometimes image conscious gets in the way of folks having an better, more realistic rig....

of course there's no substitute for power and cones, but gear has come a long ways in terms of size and weight, and there's some good bang for buck.....and there's some pricier stuff that's really kind of worth it.....it all depends .....

I guess I'll take a great sounding, cool looking, realistic rig "image"..........

I reckon so

At this point in my career I've worked too many hours at jobs I hate to afford my new SVT CL with my 810 to not care how it looks. I have a great deal of respect for that amp, tone wise and image wise. I can't imagine playing some yucky little combo or super metal looking cab and head even if it did sound great. This is an industry where pretty things make a difference. All in all. I love my rig

I am, but only because I play with a totally stock Squier Affinity Jazz and a Behringer 90W combo (that I bought well before I knew about the plights of Behringer). The band I'm in now wants to start gigging soon and I'd rather not be associated with cheapness.
In all honesty, though, I'm pretty pleased with both the looks and the sound of my Squier. And Hell, it even looks like a Fender. I just simply don't have the money to upgrade the amp locally, any good deals here are still expensive, and shipping to Alaska's a b****.

As much as I like aesthetics in my rig, there needs to be some efficiency involved. I won't use a head that isn't rack-mountable because I like to lock it up tight without it weighing a ton in a wooden case (an SVT in a road case probably weighs more than me. seriously.)
And as far as cabs go, I'm neodymium drivers all the way. But my rig matches pretty well, Aguilar DB750 on an Avatar 410 w/ silver Fender grille. It still looks cool and unique but I know I won't be frazzled moving it place to place.
