P-Bass too bassy. Strings or pickups?

It's not a matter of tone. My tone works perfectly. It's the amount of bass in the sound. In the two clips even if Paul's tone is bright and Pino's turned off, Pino's sound is more bassy to my ear.

P-Bass too bassy. Strings or pickups?

Ok let me give you guys a better idea. As I don't have an audio interface at home at the moment, here are two reference clips. The P-Bass sound I had in my head, well the way I figured it usually sounded is like this : And like I said, not bad at all, the sound is great, just not...

P-Bass too bassy. Strings or pickups?

Fine, So you take a body made of alder, match it with a neck, put on some period correct pots, pickups, bridge etc... then string on some flats and find yourself with an end result bassier and less midier than you expected. What are you left to do??? Like I said.... the sound is not...

P-Bass too bassy. Strings or pickups?

That's a strong possibility also. It's the first other bass than my SR5 that I run through my Micro-VR kit since I got it. The thing though is I had the chance to compare mine with a real '64 from a friend of mine, in an old Traynor kit and his had less bass (not a lot) and more mid. Mind...

P-Bass too bassy. Strings or pickups?

Open up might not be the right choice of words to sum it up. Basically he said that since the wood is new, it hasn't lost it's humidity the same way as a real '62 would and that since it hasn't had the chance to resonate during all these years, the wood's fibers are tighter, more compact.

P-Bass too bassy. Strings or pickups?

Thanks everyone for your input. I tried switching the e-string for a take-off roundwound I had as a spare from my other bass. It added a bit more bite to the sound but didn't reduce the bass aspect of the sound. As I had to go to my luthier, I discussed it with him and according to him...

P-Bass too bassy. Strings or pickups?

They indeed are available through online stores but my luthier, who is an authorized Fender parts seller told me the guy he contacted at Fender told him they didn't make them anymore and to put some SPB-1. At this point I don't care if he was right or not but i'll try lowering the height, if not...

P-Bass too bassy. Strings or pickups?

Hi there, Just got a custom P-Bass I had myself build from a luthier. Tried it for the first time at a soundcheck tonight and had to turn the bass down completely on my Micro-VR to have a decent sound that has punch without being boomy. Now I requested the bass to be a replica of a 62'...

Thx you guys! As for the guitarist.... this part of the song is kinda free. 50% bass solo and 50% free jam so no problem with the other guys being in my space.

    Ampeg Micro-VR live clip

Hi there folks, Here's a clip from a show I did last night with my Ampeg Micro-VR rig. I got the head and 2 cabinets and the sound is live from the camera from someone in the audience. No link to the board, it's what you would've heard with your own ears if you'd been there. Well ok, minus...

Cases or bag for Ampeg Micro rig

Hi folks, I want to know what you guys use to bring your micro rig on the road. It was good until know in the trunk of my car but I got some dates on the road where the rigs are going to travel in either a truck or a trailer and I want to make sure that it remains safe from dins and...

    Ampeg Micro-VR reliabilty

Thx for the reminder Tom. Funny how things doesn't stick in your mind when you're not interested. As I was reading it again, I remembered reading it but since I wasn't interested in Ampeg and didn't own the rig at the time, my mind discarded the info lol Anyhow... yep very clear and...

    Ampeg Micro-VR reliabilty

Now I guess that, since the micro rig is the tiny version of the big SVT, the ultimate test would be to compare both ported and sealed 210av to a big SVT810 cab to see which one retains the best the sound of this classic and then maybe understand why Ampeg went with the sealed version rather...
