Dealing with a bass player who plays like a guitarist

Don't let a dysfunctional player make the band dysfunctional too.

Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

There is a link to Yamaha that will tell you about your bass. It works for some serial numbers but misses some. I don't have the link anymore. Google Yamaha serialization and you will find a PDF file that provides a general guideline for all makers' serial numbers. I found it more useful to me.

Do you take your valuable basses to gigs?

My general idea about the choice of instrument is I will let its level (measured by price) match my skill and venue level. Right now, I am at about $800. OK, admittedly it is a bit above my current level (but it gives me some room to grow). If I would have grown to own a $15,000 bass, I...

Dealing with a bass player who plays like a guitarist

"Boundary", as I will call it. Each instrument has it's own sonic spectrum to cover. Through active, respectful, and assertive communication, a team can work well together. Being able to pick up the teamwork skill benefits one beyond the music itself.

Dealing with a bass player who plays like a guitarist

If you look in depth, Scott explained why he wears gloves and what kind (search YouTube for Scott Devine gloves). I think it is made of silk, if I did not remember it wrong.

    The old guy

This subject can lead to all different directions. I will leave it to the real experts. My way to take it is to explore what you have in hand, the bass, amps, and cabs (and effects). Understand them in depth and see what they can offer you. The pasture may seem greener on the other side.

    positive craigslist experience

A couple possibilities happened to me: 1) the item is sold - sometimes seller woke up by your inquiries and cleaned his overdued posting. 2) your email (CL mail) might have gone to his spam box and he never noticed it. Other than keeping asking, I don't a better way. 3) your replies did...
