I'm a 'fingers only' player. Most, if not all Tech-Death bassists are finger players. I think using a pick is primarily for Rock musicians. I rarely, if ever, see a jazz player using a pick.

I believe that was originally done by Simon & Garfunkel. Disturbed is sort of metal, in sound anyways. They're pretty radio friendly, as you no doubt know. If you like them, that's great. Be sure to go see them live when they come through your town.

My teacher is always very very hard on me about that. From what I have learned from him, and seen in my own playing, consistent alternating gives a more fluid playing style, and ability. Which to me, means that non-alternating can become clumsy at higher speeds, and more string switching etc...
