What's best....?

I voted "awesome bass and good amp" because there are going to be situations where amps are backlined, but seldom are decent basses provided. Additionally, in my studio experience, they are going to run you direct most of the time. In both cases, I'd rather be like, "Here's my awesome bass," instead of "You should see the awesome amp that I could not bring to this gig/ studio." YMMV

I have to choose between

a 1900$ bass + 600$ amp
or
An 800$ bass and 1700$ amp
0r
1200$ bass and 1200$ amp

When I think of a super bass, I am thinking of a Stingray 5 or classic, American deluxe jazz or P, American standard dimension

When I think of a super bass amp, I am thinking of a used Fender 100T + 115 neo cab

A good bass is a Fender Dee Dee Ramone or classic 70'S jazz

a good amp would be a Fender rumble 500 or GK MB115

$1200 is mid-level for you? If I had 1200 to spend on a bass, I would get two basses.

I think it depends on defining good and awesome, but in general, on a limited budget, put more in the amp. A 200 buck bass can be perfectly fine, whereas cheap amps are almost universally underpowered

IME the differences between a good bass and an awesome bass are relatively small refinements. I don't believe a lack of those refinements in a decent bass will hinder you at all in getting the job done effectively and comfortably.
Depending on your situation, the difference between a good amp and an awesome amp may be the difference between you being clearly present in the mix or not being heard at all.
So, I vote good bass, awesome amp since I believe that combination will best serve you in a variety of different situations.

If he's talking $1200 Canadian... Then yeah, $1200 Canadian is definitely mid level these days... Prices up here are crazy! And with the Canadian dollar being so low, deals in the states aren't deals anymore... It's tough to be Canadian with GAS these days.

Get and awesome bass, and a good amp. Amps are fairly cheap, and easy to come by. I always get a bass 'to grow into' first, and foremost. I know the argument of a crappy amp makes an awesome bass sound like crap. I'd put my money into my bass first. Plus, get some kind of insurance for your gear. Getting ripped off sucks. I've been robbed twice myself. Had insurance, so everything was replaced in a month.

Identical amps sound the same while there are tonal differences between identical basses.

It's more difficult to find a good bass!

IMO:

If you're experienced, know what you're doing with a bass, and you're playing good gigs then you need a good bass + awesome amp.

If you you're playing only small gigs and not a whole lot of them, plus you're an average or below bass player - a good bass will be easier and more enjoyable to play, making you sound better and practice more. In that case I'd say awesome bass + good amp.

If you don't know where you stand or what you want, then I say go mid-level bass + mid level amp.

Where I am the market, especially used, is soft... you can get a lot for your duckets. Also, good/great/average are relative terms. My feeling is that a great bass can inspire you to play more, and play better. But, I'd sure want to spend more on an amp/cab than $600 though.

i'm of the opinion that it's best to spend more money on amps, more specifically on cabinets. power is power, and effects and gizmos can get you where you need to be tonally, but i think the quest should begin with quality speakers/cabs.
i think there are many mid-grade basses available that one can modify to find the desired feel/tone.
lots of options available. if i were staring from scratch, i'd splurge on amps/cabs and start from there.

You're in Canada? Get a good Traynor amp. used is a better deal too. I see Quest Musique has some deals on Trace Elliot gear too.
Even a Squier CV P bass would still sound great through one of those
I see lots of stuff on your local CL.

Some kids broke one of our basement windows and stole all of my child's Christmas gifts, my older son's Playstation, and my bass related stuff.
